Great Finds Boise Bro

The Bodo renderings do look a lot better than the current gymnasium I especially like the historic look considering Bodo comprises the former warehouse district near the old train tracks and Chinatown.

Those are also great aerial views of the City. Thanks.

The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights is adding a office/classroom building to the Anne Frank Memorial. It will be a 3,500 sqft, two level building on the north side of the memorial (behind the twin circles).
Quote:
It will accommodate daily operations and staffing including an 800 sf Docent Center for beginning and ending tours of the Memorial, two welcoming stations with VR tours of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, visitor center, and public restrooms

It's a bland, almost ugly looking project. Hopefully, it's just a rendering issue but the elevations don't look any more promising...

Elevation/Perspective:

Other Renderings:

I find this image the most disturbing. It's one long monotonous (ugly) façade. On a building(s) this size, there really should be several different facades to break down the elevation a bit.

yeah, I'm not a fan of the design at all. extremely bland and dull.

and while it's good density for that area, I wish it was broken more and with more variety in the design. right now it looks like an old communist bloc housing development.

instead of one huge footprint, it'd be better to have four or five more slender, taller buildings to break things up.

the roundhouse proposal for across the street has a much better design for that area that incorporates warm wood and variety, which is nice for a development along the river.

MICROMOBILITY
Spin Teams Up With Tortoise on Teleoperated E-Scooters
This spring in Boise, Idaho, you could see e-scooters moving "on their own"

Quote:
Spin will exclusively partner with micromobility startup Tortoise to pilot the S-200 in North America and Europe. Tortoise focuses on autonomous tech and remote operations for e-scooters.

First Thing's first: Pilot mode. This spring, ~300 of Spin's new e-scooters will roll out in Boise, Idaho. At first, Tortoise's remote operations team will focus on cleaning up after sloppy scooter scatterers.

If a scooter is blocking a sidewalk, business entrance, or handicapped space, the team will remotely access its console, two cameras, and recommend parking points, and then move it up to 3 mph.

Local

Boisebro mentioned movement at the site of the new LOCAL apartments so while I was on the Greenbelt today,
I shot some photos of its location across Myrtle Street from Julia Davis Park.

The location across from the park and next to Whole Foods and Winco are definitely amenities.

Boise and the developers are doing it right with retail spots on the first floors of all of these new apartment buildings being built downtown including the apartment buildings which have recently been built.

I have several updated photos of all of the new construction in The Central Addition,
east of Broadway and next to the Basque Block and will be posting them soon.

always interesting to compare the final build to the rendering.

hard to tell from the photo, and I know the building facade isn't completed and the balconies aren't installed, but the corner section looks darker than it did in the rendering:

also, the roof extension on that corner looks much smaller in real life than in the rendering. I think I prefer the larger version.

Here are a few more from yesterday. I'm working on uploading the rest of the construction photos along Broad Street, so more to come.

Thank you Sawtooth.

Here is a great update regarding the food hall in BoDo. Lots of great renderings in the link:

Developer announces plans to build food hall in downtown Boise

The Warehouse Food Hall is a 29,000 square-foot building that will be home to more than 20 food and retail vendors.

Quote:
"Our vision for the food hall is to embrace local brands in a dynamic space with different looks and feels," said Rob Gerbitz, CEO of Hendricks Commercial Properties. "We believe Boiseans and visitors alike are looking for new experiences and opportunities to take in all that Boise has to offer. This project is going to do that and it will keep them coming back for more."

Future plans for the Wisconsin-based real-estate developer include continued rejuvenation of the former retail spaces at 8th and Broad, along with a boutique hotel project to be located near the Owyhee, breaking ground in 2022.

More growth news:
Zillow: Boise housing market tripled in value since 2011, the largest increase in the nation

The Boise metro area's growth boosted Idaho's total value of housing stock, which gained 149% over the past decade.

Over the past decade, the total value of the housing stock has more than doubled in six states. Idaho leads the way, gaining 149% since 2011. Most of that growth comes from the Boise metro, where the total housing stock has more than tripled in value during that time, most of any of the 100 largest U.S. metros. Nevada (146.3%), Utah (126.2%), Arizona (116.5%), Colorado (111.6%) and Washington (108%) also saw their total housing market value double over the past decade.

renderings look good.

I'm curious to see what changes, if any, are being made to the side that faces Capitol, too.

Hire Your Next Remote Team Member from One of These 20 U.S. Tech Hubs

This list of 20 top regional U.S. tech hubs reads like a diary of where all my friends and colleagues who left California for more space and opportunity went.

Quote:
With more and more professionals taking on remote work, people are deciding they don’t have to necessarily stay in bigger tech hubs like Silicon Valley and New York City. The spotlight is shining brightly on regional tech hubs that offer remote workers a better quality of life and potential access to more career opportunities.

As a result, talent is on the move. If you run an established business or startup, you may want to start looking for remote team members in these U.S. tech hubs.

1. Boise

Boise, Idaho is fast-becoming one of the hottest tech towns in the U.S. Homegrown startups are popping up, many focused on robotics, engineering and online software. These startups are growing thanks to a good source of tech talent already available in the city and surrounding area. Boise and its suburbs are known for beautiful parks and a wide variety of museums and restaurants.

I’ve met numerous founders who packed up and left the San Francisco Bay Area with an eye on Boise, and many other Idaho cities and towns, such as Coeur d'Alene, Missoula and Twin Falls.
