I want to see our skyline fill in kinda like Calgary. I know those are unrealistic goals because the cities in Canada are built differently than the US but who doesn't love this massing, density, size, and skyline?

Calgary is technically 33% smaller metro than the Austin metro...

Actually I don't think it's a far stretch to say we could look like Calgary in the future. The 4th pic looks similar to how Austin's skyline looks from the southeast.

Ah, that one wasn't even on my radar. That thing is huge.

On the Calgary thing, someone from the forum said recently that they think Austin's skyline looks like some of the suburban cities in Canada. I sort of see their point in the way that our downtown is stretched out. Then again, most of Canada's cities have elongated skylines.

If the office portion of this tower is self contained, ie; a/c, plumbing, electric, sprinkler system and finish out is in place as I suspect it will be before occupancy, then we know it can be done, as proven in Chicago. I believe Kevin provided the name of that building in Chicago.
Yes, that one came to mind here. Another one that I was thinking of recently while bubbling with excitement for 608 Guadalupe and trying to find buildings to compare it to is the Williams Tower in Houston. I was measuring that one to the roof to see where this one would come from, and then of course I went off to read about it. The Williams Tower is all office space, of course. It's officially listed as 901 feet with 64 floors. One thing few people realize is the building actually has two lobbies - one on the first floor and another one on the 32nd floor. The building actually functions as two 32-story towers stacked on top of each other complete with separate elevator banks. I would imagine that with that being true that it probably has other separate mechanical systems.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I last posted on here but I went ahead and did a little photoshoping on this project just to get a visualization of a crown design for the building.

All credit for the original render goes to Gensler and this is just a visualization I did on top of their render. I have no connection to Gensler. I'm just a skyscraper enthusiast that likes to dream.

I like that wedge up there. Even without the spire that would be beautiful. I could definitely see some flood lights lighting up all the glass in the crown up there (think Frost Bank Tower) and of course, the spire would have to be lit as well.

Their current space is in 300 West 6th, which is right across the street from where this will be built.
I got that info about the Cesar Chavez project from a friend of mine who used to work with me at Facebook. But it was a second-hand source. She said she knew someone designing the project. I guess maybe plans could have changed since then.

Currently, we seem to be transitioning many teams to the Domain.

That rumor as you originally reported it in 2015 matched up with the ~900' Block 185 rendering from 2015. I suspect there was a lot of merit to it at that time. But plans definitely seemed to have changed with both Block 185 and Facebook since then.

Nice! Detroit goes and proposes a new tallest, and then Austin has to come along and do it one better.

If this photo is representative of the Calgary area, downtown, the suburbs and the country are all located in a very short distance from each other. No wonder Canadian cities punch way above their weight in terms of downtown development when compared to American cities of a similar size. I wonder if it's zoning or the fact that Canadians like to huddle together due to the cold weather? Australian cities seem to develop in a similar way to Canadian cities though, so that kills the cold weather theory.

Not sure about zoning in Canadian cities.

There really could be a similar shot looking toward downtown from Mopac (looking SE toward downtown). Of course I'd love to see some infill like what Calgary has there. And more fall colors.

Yes please do a 72-75 story version as well. I'd also like to see the comparisons in relation to the skyline.

Confirmed. They were on the southwest corner of the lot as I was driving home from work today.
