The St George airport will be closing for 4 months in 2019. Apparently there is a issue with the soil under the runway and the entire thing has to be replaced. It seems ridiculous that they can't figure out a way around shutting down the entire airport. This will surely stunt the great growth that has been happening with new flights recently.

Ambitious plans to build what amounts to an entire new city along Utah's southern border moved closer to reality Thursday, with the St. George City Council giving its unanimous approval to more than 1,300 acres worth of zone changes.
Desert Color, designed to eventually build out to 3,350 acres, is planned as one of the largest master-planned developments in Utah history. It would transform the desert expanse along the Utah-Arizona border and eventually house tens of thousands of new southern Utah residents. Single-family homes, apartments, shopping, resort-style rentals, schools, parks and all the other trappings of a fully-functioning, self-sustaining community are planned to move in together.
While I am certainly not trying to advocate it the whole "disneyland experience" seems to be a bit of a stretch from the site plan. It appears to be more of a here huge new neighborhood (a major understatement) oh and we will have a horse show in a small corner of it. A process that would begin the annexation of over 800 acres into Washington City as a potential site for future industry was approved by city officials Wednesday night.
The Washington City Council unanimously approved an application to annex the 836 acres located east of the St. George Regional Airport.
The area, collectively referred to as the “Airport South Block,” consists of property owned by the city and private citizens, Washington City’s economic development director Matt Loo previously told St. George News.
Loo spoke to St. George News earlier this month about various sites within the city being eyed for future economic development.
“We have been working with the private property owners there to start the annexation process,” he said.
The area is considered potentially “primed for industry,” which could include aviation-related industry or manufacturing or be a candidate for special economic development zones that offer tax incentives to recruit companies to the city.
The gym is called Contact Climbing and will be built on the vacant lot at 2865 E. 850 N. Street, near the roundabout just west of Costco and Sportsman’s Warehouse. The lot is also just a couple blocks north of Pine View High School.
To accommodate the verticality of its climbing walls, the building will be nearly 60 feet tall. A conditional use permit for the building’s height was approved during a recent St. George City Council meeting.
The 18,500-square-foot indoor, climate-controlled gym will include a suite of rock-climbing walls and will also offer yoga and fitness classes and a full set of cardio and fitness equipment. The building will also accommodate parties, corporate events, competitions and after-school programs.
Old fire station in downtown St. George to be converted into brewery and pub

ST. GEORGE — A Southern Utah-based brewing company has received approval to open up a new brewery and pub in downtown St. George
During a public meeting Thursday evening, the St. George City Council unanimously approved an application by Zion Brewing Company for a conditional use permit to convert the now-vacant Fire Station 2 at 150 N. Main Street into a brewery.
The city is going to sell the building to Zion Brewing proprietor Brooks Pace, St. George Communications Director David Cordero said.
The fire station had recently become defunct, and equipment and personnel were moved to more modern facilities. Plans are in place to build a new fire station elsewhere to replace it.
Renovation of a small two story office building next to Joule Plaza. This was previously a mortuary, not sure what it will be next
