Just another photo of the 401 through North York. The early evening light was really soft, so even though I've taken several photos from this location previously, I thought I'd try again:

that is a nice shot, even if it includes the tacky awfulness of those pseudo-chrysler building condo towers.

I was EB on the 401 just before YYZ and the traffic sign above said "QEW to Fort Erie left lane closed" or something like that. Right below was something relevant to where I was and something you'd normally see. Can't remember what it said but that's not important.

Anyway, the first part was a mistake, ya?

I guess Highway 7 between Peterborough and Carleton Place won’t be twinned unless and until even 8 lanes are insufficient for 401 in Eastern Ontario then.

What happened to twinning from Carleton Place to Perth? No longer on the books?

Was it ever on the books or even discussed?

Discussed in 2011, yes.
The only faint hint of that possibility now is the improvement to intersections through Carleton Place (discussed in 2019).

Looking easterly along the 401 from Kennedy Road in Mississauga:

Great shot!

I wonder if there can ever be a 3rd collector lane pushed through the 410 interchange? Looks like the rightmost one exits at Dixie so you just have 2 EB collectors like through Allen Road.

I doubt there's much congestion here right now however? I guess it's still a major improvement vs the 3 general lanes that were here before.

The Dixie exit services a large industrial area and is an extremely busy exit from my understanding so a decent amount of vehicles are exiting there anyway.

The overpass above the 410 appears to have space for a third through lane, though the Tomken Road bridge would probably have to be widened to give the 410 SB to 401 EB ramp a bit more time to merge.

Long term I believe they do plan to add an additional eastbound collector lane from Dixie to the airport transfer. I don’t expect that lane to be added until something is done to the 401 east of the 427. There is no sense in adding eastbound capacity through eastern Mississauga until they do something through Etobicoke. No sense in spending money to get people to the traffic jam sooner.

Easterly view of the Grand River Bridge in Kitchener from the Conestoga Pedestrian Bridge. The bridge is being replaced, and traffic was just diverted from the former westbound lanes to the new bridge:

Two seasons in Canada. Winter and construction.

And once this bridge and the widening in Cambridge is done, get ready for another slog closer to Guelph with the Highway 6 bypass construction. The 401 will be widened here as part of that project.

Once this bridge work and the work in Cambridge is done, construction through KW is done for a while.

But yea - then stuff starts up in Guelph for the Highway 6 Morriston Bypass work.
