Grand opening at The Village at St. Elizabeth Mills

Jun 23, 2017 Hamilton Spectator

A grand opening will be held at The Village at St. Elizabeth Mills on June 30 at 3 p.m. The first new residential phase, Upper Middle Pond, is being launched. Plans are underway to transform the 114-acre St. Elizabeth Village site into a themed lifestyle resort community with a town square, restaurants, shops and more residential units. The Hamilton Mountain 55+ community will offer the opportunity to dine al fresco, take in theatre, shop, enjoy live music, stroll the boardwalk and enjoy recreational activities.

to my knowledge this has always been a gated community - you can't even see it from outside- and thus for the longest time I wasn't even aware it existed- even google maps doesn't venture inside..

the only reason I knew about it is because it's in my footprint area that I take care of for cable at my company - I never knew what it looked like inside until these proposed drawings came out though - it's a massive massive plot of land though with a lot of mini-lakes...

Expansion planned for Hamilton retirement community
Source: Daily Commercial News

There's not much more information on the project, just a different perspective.

That's great, thought this one was going to be a long term marketing project.

New plan...

Quote:
The Cluster, located on the northwest side of the property, will feature four- to 12-storey apartment buildings arranged around a central green and redesigned storm pond system.

On the northeast side of the site, the Village Square is proposed as a mixed-use commercial and residential area with three- to six-storey buildings centred around commercial uses and a village square, along with one and a half to two-storey block and maisonette townhouse units.

Wow, that's some great density for the mountain.

That model isn't even showing the building getting built right now.

It looks fairly well thought out overall. I like it.

This density will be a good support for future S bus line too.

It's great! As long as you don't live there. True for so many things in life...

On the positive side, they seem to have in mind to develop some of the parking lots and the great expanse of lawn out front of the property. I can live with that but it will be a tremendous disruption to the folks living there.

Honestly it looks pretty low impact on existing residents other than the townhouses backing onto the taller buildings in the middle of the site. The site of the community square is mostly vacant and the taller buildings are replacing an office building and parking lot.
