It looks strange to me. Otherwise, it's a very nice addition to the core. This area is going to be super dense especially if the McMaster residence and the three Main street towers between Hess and Caroline are built.
I personally hope they clad that pillar with something like chrome and don't just keep it a concrete pillar as it will age horribly otherwise.

Looks like they cleaned the Crane rust half way up the podium, but it's still there at the top of the podium. Hopefully it is addressed.

well the good news is it's a panel - if they really had to they could pull it out and swap it in for another one I s'pose..

Since everyone is talking about public parking, thought I'd share that this building now has public parking. It's $5 all day, $4 evening, and $90/month.

likely the required visitor parking component, which is often only a small amount of spaces (in a ~250 unit building like this, likely 30-40 spaces). The spaces aren't required to be free or even exclusively for visitors of the building, so they are often operated as commercial garages. At least in Toronto, and I imagine it's similar in Hamilton.

I don't recall the exact elevations, and I'm sure they're listed in this forum, but I estimate there were between 80-100 spots here before.

I don't have the most up-to-date documents for this site, but the set of documents I do have are pretty close to the finished product so I can't imagine they're too much different.

They indicate 392 municipal parking spaces, however my understanding is that were not 100% committed to being handed over to the City and now it looks like Vrancor have decided to run them as a simple commercial lot.

So that means there is a net increase in public parking spots by almost 4 fold. I do wish the city was administering them for a while bunch of reasons, including the ability to make them free at certain times of the year and because they may generate profit.

Huh, thanks for this. So the above grade spaces are commercial and residential is accommodated in the below grade portion. That explains the 2 parking ramps (one on Caroline, one on George) as well. I just figured they didn't do much underground parking here and accommodated the res parking above grade because it's cheaper. Good to know it's a public garage instead of residential. There are 476 commercial parking spaces here essentially by the looks of it, making it, I believe, the fourth largest garage downtown after the City Centre, Jackson Square, and convention centre garages.

I'm not too concerned about the private ownership of it. $5/day and $90 a month is very affordable as it is anyway.

Two things: 1) look at how much wider the sidewalk is. It is much more comfortable along Caroline where the sidewalk has been extended, even though the pavement allows for a wider sidewalk before the new development. 2) This entire section of George St has no street lights or parking posts. It's quite nice and wide, but I suspect at least parking posts will be going in, which will clutter up the sidewalk, but how will they put in light posts without ripping up the sidewalk again??

and hopefully will only ever be the only true one. Lack of sun is not an attractive element imo. At least here it's a non-major road so it doesn't matter too much.

Also I am guessing they are keeping that rust stain on the front of the stone - I mean for gods sake at least paint it or something.. totally unacceptable for a "new" build" imo..

Loving that white curve on the side from a distance - it's the little details that make this one so great

This is a good analogy from a size and nature perspective.

The size of the downtown Vancouver isn't really that large in the core, sure there's West, East and North Van, but the downtown core's are similarly sized. Both have nature incorporated around bodies of water, but sadly we do not have real mountains, but honourable shout out to our mountain at 300m.
