Thankfully, its just a rendering. I'm working on the facts, which are:

#1. Its gonna be a 5 star hotel, with materials to match. (it better be hot, its in Yorkville, and I'll have to park my Lamborgini out front)

#2. Its gonna have landscaped grounds and fountain. (much more than the current building down the street, which has a flower potter box in front of the ramp for the Rolls Royces, and Masarati's)

#2. Its gonna be 200 meters tall. - And in the end isn't that what a skyscraperpage website all about.

What's wrong with me - the image of Borat trying to sell me a condo immediately pops to mind everytime I see this rendering because the developer happens to be from Kazakhstan

Funny how Los Angeles appears in the background of that rendering. Silly junior graphic designer just pulled whatever he could easily find out of a city clip art library!

yeah. I hate how renderings rarely show the buildings true surrounding in any detail. Sometimes a building's context can "make" or "break" it architecturally.

Trump Tower Clarification

It seem to me that many people think that the Trump is going to be as tall as the Scotia Bank building but I remember reading that the height increase was turned down. This was around the same time at the first Sapphire was turned down (a shame) for the same reason. I remember them originally getting approved for around 60 to 70 stories. So does anyone know for sure what height it is going to be?

yes..325m spire height and 301roof height, although i find it hard to believe that they want like 1 sqaure metre of area to be considered the roof. Looking at it any person would say that its "roof" is at the same height as scotia plaza'a (its actually abit heigher). but officially, 325 and 301..which is significantly higher then scotia plaza's 275m height.

Ahh, cheers Neilioo. I see the OMB gave it the go-ahead over the city hall. They won't be able to do that for very much longer (for better or worse). I wonder why crazy Harry didn't go to the OMB with the original Sapphire? It was a nicer looking building although I do like how the new building points to the CN Tower. Kinda strange how ther went from tall, slender and eligent to short, bulky and a little crude. Maybe the new sapphire needs one more overhaul on it's design. Although after Harry current problems--bankruptcy and bad workmanship on 1 King (the windows leak, haha)--I wonder if anyone will be willing to put money down.

not true ... the city approved it and Scotiabank appealed the city's decision to the OMB (later increased by 2 storeys by the CofA)

height restiction due to shadowing which the OMB would never overturn

its funny how so many assume every case at the OMB is the city vs developer when its so far from the truth

Well, goodlookin’, I was going from this: "Ontario Municipal Board Final Decision Allows $500 million Trump Toronto Project to Soar to 70 Stories"
http://www.prnewswire.co.uk/cgi/news/release?id=135160

And I don't think many people assume, I think they know. Look at almost any contested project. Look at the recent Queen West triangle quarrel. And more importantly watch the city use their new powers from the province to create its own board--apparently, according to the Mayor, as soon as the spring--virtually replacing the OMB in Toronto.

1 Bloor East is back. The proposal calls for an ~80 storey residential/commercial building.

Bazis International unveils plans for Canada's most celebrated corner

TORONTO, March 22 /CNW/ - Bazis International of Toronto, Ont., will
unveil its plans to redevelop Canada's most important corner at a news
conference Thursday, April 5, 2007.

Bazis International has acquired a one-acre property on the southeast
corner of Yonge and Bloor Streets in the heart of Toronto. It will create an
innovative mixed use development featuring a nearly 80 storey tower with a
four storey double-height podium at the base making it Toronto's tallest
residential/commercial building.

Michael Gold together with celebrated Toronto architect, Roy Varacalli,
both of Bazis, will offer details and be available for interviews as will City
Councillor Kyle Rae.

The news conference will be held in the Panorama Room on the top of the
nearby ManuLife Centre, a vantage point that offers a bird's eye view not only
of the 1 Bloor site but also of Bazis' first Toronto project, the Crystal Blu
condominium, soon to start construction on Balmuto Street just south of Bloor.

1 Bloor E

It’s at Yonge and Bloor, shappy. About a 15 min. walk north. Or were you making a witty comment on the billboards?

Wow, I’m starting to like these new proposals. This is a major upgrade over the last project that looked like it was transported from Taipei. The undulating billboard is nice—Never thought I’d say that about a three-story billboard at street level. The tower is elegant and looks like it could play off of the Aura building. Maybe this curving and undulating look can start a trend down Yonge. It’s a tough corner with all the ugly around it but this might look really good. The big test will be if it can take attention away from those horrible towers on the north side of Bloor.
