"But a city can be smothered by too much reverence for its past. The skyline must keep acquiring new peaks, because the day we consider it complete and untouchable is the day the city begins to die." - Justin Davidson - May 2010 Issue of New York
That was phase 1 originally, but have we ever gotten updated info or renders since the city made them make some changes?
There's this article from almost a year ago. It notes this is post city rejection. Were there further changes after this? I don't really know who the developer is or if there's a website.
There's even a model. With what looks like a guard tower sticking off the one end.
The new design shows the exterior stairwells boxed in and they look so much better. The worst part of the previous design was the stairs going every which way and cutting through all sight lines. Now they blend in more as "shapes" than as stairs.
^ I still find the building on stilts thing a bit awkward (I think it would look better if the eastern building was scrapped and the western building had a few floors added to make up for it), but on the whole it works and I'm glad that a solution was finally found that allows for the preservation of the pumping station.
Looking at the pictures of all that vintage machinery, I'm surprised it hasn't been used in more movies to this point.
As for the trailer for "Stand!", I know a musical about the strike has been a long term project in these parts, but I wish they would have just made a straight movie without the mediocre music. Yeah, i know, I haven't heard the entire score, but I personally can't see how that song supposed to sell the movie. Lots of people like it, though, I guess.
