The Flames are lucky they actually play them so infrequently despite being in the same conference and division.
Last night's bad luck was due more to goaltending. The Flames were the better team on the night, but it didn't translate to the scoreboard. I'm not sure what's going on with Smith but he's costing them games at this point.

He's old and has been screwed up by a terrible goalie coach.

The Flames dominated the hell out of the Ducks, but Miller was outstanding. Smith is off to a rocky start, but the team in front of him is playing well enough that we should still get wins in these games.

The steam has run out for the Canucks Pettersson with no line mates that can score. The rest of the team cant score. Canucks are going to get shut out by Boston tonight 5 - 0. No goals or assists for Pettersson tonight.

I thought he was pretty much the next Jesus, now you have no faith in him? If he's as good as you want him to be, he should be able to elevate the linemates he plays with.

Even McDavid couldn't get the Oilers in the playoffs last year.

However, lesser deities like Nathan MacKinnon and Taylor Hall could.

The amount of high quality talent in the NHL these days is pretty staggering. Imagine how many points these guys would have put up in the 80s and early 90s. Maybe not Gretzky numbers, but still. Some sick talent these days.

It’s frustrating to see him with no support. Boeser is going back to Vancouver to see s doctor. Goldonin and Erikson can’t score. He is human after all.

Pettersson’s start is unprecedented though. Even you compared him to Ovechkin.

Vancouver is still in rebuild mode, they are ahead of the curve relative to where they should be in their rebuild (similar to the Flames a few seasons ago), this just shows that they need more depth in the lineup to handle injuries. Also, the Canucks have had a ridiculous amount of injuries the last few seasons, it's either really bad luck, or a weakness in their scouting / drafting (taking very fragile players).

The kid is special, no doubt about that. I didn't compare him to Ovechkin though as they are not similar players at all. Ovechkin is a power forward whereas Petterson is pure finesse but lacks anything resembling grit. What I did say was that he scored a goal from Ovie's office, big difference.

Just playing with you a bit. I said at the beginning of the season that I wanted to see Pettersson show that he’s someone to build around and the Canucks get another good draft pick because will still need a Tkachuck type winger (or Kakko would suffice) for Pettersson to play with. I don’t think I’ll get my wish though if he stays near his pace. Canucks win more than they lose when he’s scoring.

The Canucks have had a tendency of late to start the season pretty good, then regress significantly, I would expect the same this year.

So let me get this straight: Vancouver scored 8 more goals last night, NONE of them were by Petterson, and are now the highest scoring team in the entire league??!!

^^Well Tampa Bay is ahead on total goals and technically Vancouver is 12th in goals for per game.

Oh Edmonton. Getting roughed up by Florida. After having a good back-to-back they are back to their terrible selves with three straight loses. Edmonton really needs to find someone that can win a faceoff.

The fact that they have allowed more goals than they have scored should tell you something about this team. That's a stat that shows why the Flames have struggled in recent years as well.

Morgan Reilly has been a monster this year. He was pretty damn good last year too, but I have a feeling he’s going to establish himself as a top D this year.

Blake Wheeler had a 5-point blast during the Jets-Avs game.

I remember when he was a Boston Bruin who was thought to have peaked in his rookie year, eventually being traded for Rich Peverly.

How many players have the Bruins prematurely given up on in recent memory? I count:

Joe Thornton
Phil Kessel
Tyler Seguin
Blake Wheeler
Dougie Hamilton.

And they basically have nothing to show for any of those trades. It seems like the only team they actually trade well with is Toronto.
