Is there some particular reason that they're building it with the exterior steel skeleton? Is it cheaper? I've don't think I've ever seen that in Toronto.

As I recall, it was done this way to reduce weight so they could build higher on the existing foundation.

CIBC Square would be the most recent one

That makes sense. Hope they weren't cutting it too close, though.

I've never seen that. Downtown seems like a distant memory now anyway.

While CIBC Square is a much larger project, this page from a year and a half ago shows they used the same basic construction process as 300 Main:

Sidenote, but the core on CIBC Square looks massive...

The new CIBC office tower in Toronto went up with steel. It started after the Artis project and it’s actually finished! They are putting in tenant TI’s now. A beauty I must say.

^^^ In that image it looks like the top and second-from-top floors both have sections missing/removed (to the right if the core). Is this maybe where the mystery incident happened and they've removed damaged slabs?

Not really. That angle is similar to the first webcam angle we see with every new page. Otherwise, it would have been completely obvious right now.

With that said, ever since that "mystery" incident, we haven't seen any installs. I'm guessing they want to be thorough until it is safe to proceed and continue with the slab and girder erections.
