KC is like Pittsburgh to me - just fascinating with the great stock of old brick structures, which I wish we had more of here in Seattle. Fantastic photos!
This photo thread has changed my perception a bit on KC... for the better. Thanks for sharing! Threads like this are what made me originally fall in love with SSP.
Great city to explore. A wonderful collection of disparate districts.
Did you make it up to the observation level of City Hall?
No, unfortunately I didn't realize there was an observation level there. My work has its training center in KC so at some point in the future chances are I'll be back and can check it out. Thanks for the heads up!
OhioGuy, what an amazing thread! I loved every single pic. Thanks for sharing with us.
There are lots of urban jewels all over the US, and unfortunately many don't get recognition. Kansas City, for instance, has lots of bones to attract people looking for an urban living.
Thanks everyone! KC had flown under my radar for years and if it wasn't for my work trip I'm not sure when I might have visited... but I'm glad I had the opportunity and look forward to visiting again (hopefully when I can catch a game at the mid-century modern Kauffman Stadium, where I was supposed to see the Royals take on the Tigers on Easter but the game was postponed to July due to the rainy cold weather).
I had a work trip to Kansas City in mid-April and flew in a couple days early to check out the city. After departing the airport, I initially visited Lawrence, KS (photos here), but I spent the rest of my time in Kansas City. There was a lot to like while out & about exploring the city, most especially the plethora of old historic buildings. Certainly there were vacant lots mixed in as well, but the bones of KC are still quite impressive and it looks like continued infill will add more vibrancy in the years and decades to come. I hope to go back in the next couple of years for another visit as there’s still plenty more to explore.
1 – I stayed in the Country Club District which is a few miles south of downtown KC. Parts of the area are over a century old and contains plenty of great old residential architecture. Love these buildings along Brush Creek!
Beautiful! If you asked me to guess where this was, I'd say somewhere in Central Europe. Hard to believe this is...Kansas City of all places!
