don's first commercial modeling shoot...

So what do you think? I used my old 28-70 mm Canon EF-L-series lens.

I like the photos, but I'm not a fan of the lighting. However, the model said she wanted warm colors and so I didn't use any other sources of light except the Canon 580EX Speedite flash. Personally, I think the flash is not powerful enough for an indoor shoot.

I also think most of the shots are not as sharp as I would like. These were all hand-held shots as I was not able to bring my tripod.

Other than that, they seem okay to me.

Your feedback is appreciated. I am by no means an expert in this area.

The photos kinda look snapshot-ish. Choose a better / more creative venue. Also, don't ask her to look at the camera, she looks like a deer stuck in some headlights.

Oh, and ask her not to show her teeth when she smiles, that's some crazy overbite going.

Hey, you asked for feedback.

The photo quality is fine, but yeah, the model didn't pull it off very well with the poses. I'm not a fan of the warm lighting, I'd rather just straight up clean light.

I would like to see that photo that violated Photobucket's terms of agreement, though.

The lighting is really, really bad. You should be able to pull off good results, even indoors, with that flash. It won't compare to a nice kit setup, but the direct lighting and harsh background shadows are killing these images. Good lighting is about accentuating and highlighting the form, not washing out detail. Even just bouncing that flash would have improved these images.

The best image is probably the last one, but those pillows in the background are in a funny spot and distracting.

I find the generic_apartment_background to be very distracting. Since that background makes me think these photos could have been taken in any one of dozens of my friends places... it takes away from the professionalism no matter how good the image qaulity is. There is something about being in someone's home that lends to the snapshot look that has been mentioned above.

With the 580 EX, you should be bouncing the flash off the walls or ceiling for a shoot like this. Flip the head up and pull out the little white reflector.

You should clearly be concentrating on more shots from behind, ie the first shot, but maybe that's just me.

I agree with the comments regarding lighting. The 580EX should be powerful enough, the problem seems to be that it's too direct in these shots. It should definately be bounced off the ceiling or off camera (with a light umbrella ideally) to avoid the harsh shadows.
