I still call it the "Deas Island Tunnel", in the same vein as the way I refer to the "Second Narrows Bridge". And when the new tunnel is built I doubt I'll change my ways...

there was a decision. and it was being moved on. then the NDP decided to play politics with infrastructure instead of doing the project.

it would have been done almost 2yrs ago by now.

i still dont see how theyre going to get environmental approval for literally digging a massive trench across the fraser river. talk about environmental impacts.

I'm sure they watch these forums for ideas. How many transit fantasies have come true so far?

Maybe they could use something like this to connect Queensborough to the rest of New West.

The politics are pretty simple. Spending capital on other projects is worth more than the south delta - south surrey bridge. It's just not very relevant to winning elections

and i think its ridiculous. such a major route from the US. such an old crossing that would fail in even a small earthquake. limits on dangerous goods. being woefully undersized for the growth of the region.

and we get these loser politicians not giving a crap about what is right for the region, vs what is right for their votes. that is the one issue with democracy; no long term thinking.

i dont know what the changed happened, but politicians didn't used to be this ridiculous.

*Politicians in BC. This doesn’t seem to be a problem elsewhere, for infrastructure upgrades at least. We are years behind even Alberta for highway upgrades. Hell, 4 people died in 2 separate accidents on highway 5 north of Kamloops on Dec 27th. It’s the main highway connecting Edmonton/Jasper to BC and there is no reason why it can’t be upgraded to a 4 lane divided highway but BC gov just doesn’t give a shit. The mayors of towns along the highway are furious and accusing the province of neglect.
