Wixom -

It looks like this might finally get going this Spring. Cleveland-based ICP, which purchased the site in 2018 and cleaned it up, just sold 104 of the 182 acres to Kansas City-based "Flint Development". There was $16+ million worth of remediation work over the past few years to prepare the site for redevelopment -

Wixom Logistics Center construction will begin this spring on former Ford property
Mark Cavitt | The Oakland Press
March 14, 2021
According to the article,

Quote:
Phase 1 construction, which will begin in April and [take] about a year to complete, will include the construction of two buildings totaling more than 900,000 square-feet and an extension of West Road that will access the remaining 80 acres that ICP will retain to the west for future development. The permitted uses of the buildings will include: warehouse, distribution, logistics, light industrial, and assembly. Phase two will feature the construction of three buildings totaling 700,000 square-feet with a timeline for construction to be determined. The Wixom Logistics Center is being built on the eastern portion of the property.
It's unclear in the article if ICP, the owner of the remaining 80 acres, plans to develop that itself, or also sell it to an interested buyer.

Oakland University also broke ground last Fall on its Wilson Hall renovation & 40,000 SF expansion. I thought I posted about it a while ago, but apparently I forgot to. The project is focused on providing more student space and administrative space -

Nice! My dad worked as engineer before moving to internal safety prior to retiring this year. He had mentioned his doubts about the project moving forward as it was envisioned due to the massive investment at Michigan Central along with decreased time in office in post covid era.

A lot of employees were thinking that Michigan Central would fulfill Fords goal of having a campus that is attractive to young professionals. So why the thinking went would the company spend a ~ billion on a new tech center when renovations could be made while linking the site into the envisaged Michigan Ave Mobility Corridor.

Good to see the project moving forward the impact on downtown Dearborn and beyond is going to be exciting I really like what they did with Wagner Place already.

I think it looks great too!

On the topic of Ford, the Fair Lane Estate in Dearborn recently received the 2021 Governor's Award for Historic Preservation. It was a really cool restoration, led by the team of Henry Ford Estate, Inc., Quinn Evans Architects, SmithGroup, Inc., The Christman Company, National Restoration, Inc. and Historic Surfaces, LLC.

Some photos of the new Magna Electric Vehicle Structures (MEVS) automotive manufacturing plant, which broke ground in November. It must be quite meditative, painting all of those steel joists. Just look at the size of this thing!

Here's a flyover of the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House. The lagoon, swimming pool, and surrounding landscape are being restored to the original Jens Jensen design. The new work is being led by Albert Kahn Associates. I visited this house once, around Christmas time, and it was amazing. It seems to be a popular wedding venue. I'm sure this will only enhance that -
