And we're still #2 in the CHL top ten.

So, I have been doing a little cyphering regarding the Wildcats top goal scorers:

Khovanov - 19 goals in 22 games for a GPG of 0.86
Pelletier - 16 goals in 24 games for a GPG of 0.67
Cyr - 15 goals in 26 games for a GPG of 0.57
McKenna - 14 goals in 19 games for a GPG of 0.74
l'Heureux - 10 goals in 22 games for a GPG of 0.45

If these five players continue to score at this rate over the remaining 42 games of the season, their final totals will be:

Khovanov - 55 goals
McKenna - 45 goals
Pelletier - 44 goals
Cyr - 39 goals
l'Heureux - 29 goals

The Wildcats could potentially have four 40 goal scorers on the team!

Of course, not all these players will play all the remaining games. Some games will be missed to injury, or to international assignment.

Using the same rationale to predict final point totals for the season, and these are the results:

Khovanov - 122 points
Pelletier - 120 points
McKenna - 85 points
l'Heureux - 71 points
Cyr - 68 points

...and now the Wildcats' high-profile coach suddenly clears out his locker and leaves the team after having it out with Robert Irving right after Friday's win.

Cats seem to be in full damage control mode, GM saying Torchetti is still the head coach but won't be behind the bench today.

With most sports teams this would be a shocking turn of events, but given Robert Irving's penchant for being excessively hands-on with the hockey side this isn't all that surprising.

That's horrible.

Torch was guiding the team to a stellar year. Things could drastically change now...........

No one knows exactly what happened, but it appears that it might have been a dust-up between Torch & Irving, a line in the sand was drawn and either Torch was dismissed, or resigned.

The easy speculation is that there was a difference in opinion on the upcoming trade period. Maybe Irving was willing to empty the cupboard to go all in for a Mem Cup run, and Torchetti disagreed with his approach.

In any event, unless they can mend fences in the next few days, I think we just might have seen the end for any Memorial Cup dreams for this team.

Tragic.............

Irving has developed a bad reputation for meddling in team operations. Better coaches will not tolerate this type of approach. With two top rated (and winning) coaches gone in two years, it will likely be difficult to attract top drawer coaching talent in the future...............

It seems like the classic case of the team owner trying to run the team & be the hockey man, and not letting the real hockey man do his job. The team's record speaks for itself. Torch was doing a great job. No need for Mr. Irving to meddle. It's a shame.

a poster on the wildcats message board has reported that Irving & Torchetti met after the Wildcats left today and cooler heads prevailed.

I guess we'll see if that turns out to be true. This poster has implied in the past he/she has sources but not a long time proven track record by any means.

That would be horrible if true. I remember at the old Coliseum how Robert would sit right behind the bench and had the glass removed so he could "coach" from the stands. It was embarrassing, but just one of those things. After a number of years, the glass was put back in, allegedly after the league put a stop to it.
If his wish to play pretend coach cost us a real coach of the claliber of Torchetti, it would be a great loss indeed.

Taking a leave of absence for “personal reasons”.

That's a pretty bland, meaningless and uninformative press release. Must have been formulated by a lawyer or public relations person.......

FWIW from Wiki: Who knows if this is true.

On November 30th, 2019, Torchetti cleaned out his locker room at the Avenir Center, where the Moncton Wildcats play. He was fired by the owner of the team, Robert Irving. It is rumored that he was fired as a result of his clandestine negotiations with other professional hockeys team.

This is entirely possible - there are a couple of interesting professional coaching assignments which have become suddenly available (Toronto Marlies, Calgary Flames).

Regardless of who is to blame here, this is a nightmare situation for the Wildcats. They should be completely focussed on the Christmas trade period, but instead they will have to deal with internal chaos. This team has (had) what it takes to potentially win a Q League championship, and potentially the Memorial Cup, but if a new coach has to be found, the team will be more preoccupied with learning new systems rather than winning games for at least a couple of months. The Cats position in the standings will undoubtedly suffer, and, as has been pointed out by lirette, it is crucial that they finish first in the east this year to have the easiest path to the league finals.

This is a worst case scenario for the Moncton Wildcats...........

It does sound more likely than the "leave of absence for personal reasons" I can see Mr. Irving being upset if Torchetti is looking around for another job.
