‘Mobility Center’ crowns $62M plan to improve Downtown parking, walking

Quote:
The Downtown Memphis Commission plans to fill in an entire – and important – city block with a new kind of parking structure, the “Downtown Mobility Center.”

The nine-level building would rise in the surface parking lot across Beale Street from the Orpheum Theatre, providing 1,400 spaces, a rooftop restaurant, showers, lockers and storage for cyclists, accommodations for other travel connections like rideshare and scooters, and even a monumental staircase designed to be worthy of selfie photographs.

It’s time for Memphis to put there bid in on the blue cross bowl.
https://tssaa.org/state-championship-rfps

This could be a good source of revenue for the proposed new liberty park.

Downtown board approves public support for One Beale’s Grand Hyatt

Quote:
ig help from taxpayers — totaling $129.5 million — for One Beale’s big next phase received unanimous support from a Downtown Memphis Commission board on Tuesday, Dec. 8.

The Center City Revenue Finance Corp. gave its approval for a 30-year tax break, or payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT), plus a 5% hotel tax surcharge to help One Beale developers build a Phase IV that features a 350-room Grand Hyatt hotel that would tower over the Mississippi River near the foot of Beale.
