Islands of Asia Pt. 2: An Unsung City

For those who missed the first part, I'm currently on break in Asia and I'm documenting my travels. Here's the first part:

Islands of Asia Pt. 1: A Fine City

This time, I'm covering Taipei, Taiwan. All I'll say is that it should be far, far better-known in the West than it is... I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking. I hope you enjoy viewing Taipei as much as I enjoyed visiting it.

Surprised to see the marijuana shop in 48. I was under the impression that no one smoked pot in the strict asian societies?

Great set, Taipei impressed me hugely the only time I've been in 2009. Taipei is just below Seoul is the biggest outbound tourist destination in Japan these days, even moreso than Hawaii. I went to Taipei on business with Japanese coworkers, and they all concluded that Taipei is "the most Japanese-friendly city outside of Japan besides Honolulu".

You can leave Japan off that list too in regards to weed and coke. Both are a breeze to get (at least in Tokyo), and as long as you're buying from a yakuza-approved dealer and you don't do anything stupid, cops don't even care - they're in on it with the yaks. The Japanese finance and media industries wouldn't function without coke.

glad to see i wasn't the only one who did a double take at the cannabis shop. (or head shop, i guess.)

colorful tour, flava. the aerial tram looks fascinating.

I knew somebody would ask that haha. While I don't have a specific shot of it, I probably have one of the least photographed angles on it (to the right in the horizon):

lol
