Have A Photoshoot At Some Of The World’s Most Unbelievable Architectural Structures

Also on the island of Cijin is the famous Cijin Rainbow Church. And guess what? It isn’t a real church, but an open space with structures so visually stunning that you’ll want to make it the site for all future photoshoots.

We first found out about Rainbow Church through Instagram, and after scrolling through hordes of incredible hipster shots - no two angles looked the same - we just had to check it out ourselves. What greeted us were two beautiful structures that played with the sunlight so well, every photo turned out surreal and just impossible.

Kaohsiung’s shared workspace facility for creative industries, Pier-2 Base, is open for business, the Kaohsiung Bureau of Cultural Affairs announced last week.

The Pier-2 Base has 1,200 ping (3,967m2) of floor space on the third and fourth floor of the refurbished Huayun Building in Yancheng District (鹽埕), which used to be a Taiwan Sugar Co office building.

Space for 60 companies and additional workstations for individuals in the creative industries — with the latter having a seaside view — are available for rent by the year, month or day, the bureau said.

Features of the new complex are its spacious working areas and designer decor, including a floor-to-ceiling bookcase wall, and firemen’s poles and slides for moving between floors.

“The major pitfall for cultural and creative bases that we have seen in the past was the homogeneity of the enterprises in the campus,” Cultural Affairs Bureau Director-General Yin Li (尹立) said. “Pier-2 Base was designed to address this by encouraging synergy between different types of businesses, as well as those at different points of the industry’s chain.”

The spatial arrangements are designed to inspire creativity and the facility is made to encourage integration between different types of companies, Yin said.

The bureau has moved some of its own operations — including the facility’s management staff and its help center for video and filmmaking — to the new site to enhance public-private cooperation, he said.

Pier-2 Base is part of the Pier-2 Art Center, a complex of warehouses and open space that was opened up as a venue for artists, performances, concerts and cafes in 2006.

Sixteen companies have rented space at Pier-2 Base, including Let’s Design Co, last year’s winner of the ADA Award for Emerging Architects, Laboratory of Fragrance and Perfume Co and the Shanghai-based I-Zen Dress and Suit Designs Co, the bureau said.

The facility has three function areas for meetings, educational classes and dining services, Pier-2 Base management team said.

Visitors flock to 'octopus' mailboxes in Kaohsiung

(CNA) Two mailboxes adorned with ceramic figures in the shape of octopuses have been attracting attention in the fishing village of Keziliao in Kaohsiung.

Keziliao in the city's Ziguan District is known for its seafood, in particular mullet roe, narrow-barred Spanish mackerel, squid and milkfish.

One group of visitors said the mailboxes were "kawaii," which means "cute" or "lovely" in Japanese. Chunghwa Post, which installed the mailboxes at a newly relocated post office near Keziliao Harbor, decided to decorate them with octopuses to reflect the characteristics of the fishing village.

The octopus mailboxes have become a popular attraction for children in particular who flock there to pose for photos.

In front of the post office itself, there is another ceramic figure depicting a postman pointing at the entrance, which has also become a tourist attraction.

Cat-shaped mailbox promotes tourism in southern Taiwan's Kaohsiung

(CNA) A mailbox in the shape of an orange cat has become a popular new attraction in Kaohsiung City's Jiasian District after being introduced last year as the southern city's first motif mailbox.

The "cat messenger" mailbox was installed in a local alley last August, one year after the local community launched efforts to revive the area, including colorful paintings on walls, according to Jiasian Post Office.

The office said it participated in the local community's efforts and painted multiple cat motifs. It later decided to introduce a new mailbox in the shape of a cat, in an effort to celebrate "cat alley."

Prior to Typhoon Morakot, which battered Taiwan in August 2009, the alley housed many eateries and was frequented by numerous stray cats.

However, Jiasian was one of the areas hardest-hit by the typhoon and in its wake the number of tourists fell and the stray cats disappeared, the post office said.

The mailbox has become a big hit in the district since it was installed in August, drawing many tourists during holidays, it said. Some couples have even traveled great distances to have their wedding photos taken there, it added.

In addition to promoting tourism, the mailbox is part of an effort to encourage tourists to mail handwritten postcards or letters to their loved ones and friends, the office said. Nowadays, people seldom send handwritten letters due to the advent of the Internet and smartphones.
