I am pleased the project will move forward. The original designs proposed in the 1st page of this blog indicated a higher more sophisticated design. The latest ones are more generic but appear to be a larger-scale project. Either way, I welcome this to heighten this small skyline we still have. Get it done!

Hopefully the Chase building gets done around the same time as well. Just imagine the 360 views in Civic Space Park after this is all done. This will really solidify our downtown! This should finally spark taller residential towers up central for the 2030s…..

I think the bottom line is: if these towers get built, they will be TREMENDOUS additions to the skyline and will finally bump us over the line from "short guy complex" skyline to something more approaching normal for a city our size. So kinda doesn't matter what the design is if it's even remotely similar to renderings.

Just drove up and down Central for the first time in a while. Holy smokes! That area has transformed tremendously in a short period of time. Throw in Vela (or whatever it’s called now), and hopefully a few of: 1st and Pierce, 901 N Central and that parcel near 1st Ave and Roosevelt and that area is going to feel like an honest to god urban space.

But the real impact would be if this project comes to fruition. This would be an unbelievable catalyst for the area to bring in more and more residential towers and amenities. I still can’t believe how alive it felt.

Just need to develop that damn Circle K 😂

Probably a stupid question but what can the average person do to try and get rid of that circle k? I live around here and the circle k is the bane of my existence.

Yea, that Circle K....

I hate to admit this, but I frequently stop there when in DT due to being one of the cheaper gas places around. But I gotta say, I have witnessed my fair share of shit there, including having to call 911 for some wacko threatening to throw a huge rock through my car window.

That place sorely needs to go or needs some serious police presence. It's amazing with the influx of residents and ASU students have not demanded for the city to do something about it.

Can I start a petition? Is there a process to bring it to the city’s attention?

How about this scenario:

Astra gets built out by 2027 or 2028 or whatever. A large chunk of the office space is then leased by MAG, which vacates its offices in the building on the NWC of 1st Ave & Van Buren (probably 10 years ago at least now MAG was actually looking into building a new office building or at the very least moving, so it's plausible). Then, the current building MAG is in sits nearly vacant and is totally underutilizing a prime corner parcel next to the new Central Station development, Astra, light rail stations, and downtown ASU. So it sells to a large developer, gets demolished, and a brand new Phoenix tallest building is built in its place.

During the public comment portion of city council meetings, I believe residents are able to submit a petition that the City Council has to consider within a set time period. I'm pretty sure I saw someone do it a few months back when I was tuning in to a meeting.
