Thanks Apey and Phil... Yes I've got some old photos of this site. Cool to look back on. I tried a little while ago to go back up North Park Manor but I got busted and was told to leave. I'll try again soon. hahaha. I will have to go on a new photo shoot of Victoria too soon.

Thanks skylinegazer great photos...
It's amazing how fast Langford is growing. I've hardly ever taken photos out that way. I'll have to do that one day. It's also Victoria's third largest municipality/city now. Only Victoria and Saanich are larger.

yeah it's turning into a real city out there. langford's taking all the growth that Victoria and Saanich turn away, and I'd say building at a greater density than anywhere other than downtown Vic too.

It'll definitely be interesting to see how Langford will look in ten years from now. I think they've dealt with the growth really well with the exception of all the clear cutting of forests for housing. When they built Broadmead and John Dean park in the 70's and 80's they kept so many trees and I really like those neighborhoods. I don't know why they clear cut everything in Langford. Just my thoughts.

Here's a few more photos of downtown that I took a couple of weeks ago.

I've been browsing though some old photos and found these that I took of Victoria earlier this year. I uploaded them to Flickr and thought I'd share them tonight.

I took this photo in January,

Nice pics GS

That last shot of the Songhees really shows how from the water, each building steps up in height

I'd say it's a mixed bag

When I was a kid I had a friend who moved to Broadmead just after it was built (parts of it were still being built) and while all the trees were nice to make you feel like you were in the forest the downside was, it was dark as very few houses got much direct sunlight and I don't know about you but I kind of like a little sunshine. As I recall you grew up there so I expect you know that better than anyone though

I'm always amazed at how you remember so many things about me hahaha. Yes I grew up in Broadmead and went to Lochside, Royal Oak and Claremont. It was a great neighborhood to grow up in and had such great friends which I'm still friends with. We had a swimming pool in our backyard and we had very little sunlight on the pool because of all the trees in our neighbor's yard. They are also pretty messy but I still like all the trees. I also assume that in the new developments in Langford where they are clear cutting everything...they'll be planting trees. I just think they should leave lots of the natural fir trees though. Just my thoughts.

Thanks Vin. I also liked how that photo took.

I was downtown the other day and I took a few quick photos. I thought I'd share them. I really miss taking photos of the city. I need to take a day to go downtown and take photos soon.

Thanks again Vin.

I didn't know that the Northern Junk building proposal went to public hearing on Thursday or I would have gone. I'm excited to hear that it has been approved. Crazy this developer waited 10 years to finally get an approval from the city. Here's the link to the Check 6 news article.

Just wanted to say I too have grown up in the Broadmead area over the last 25+ years and really seen a change! Also, I went to Claremont! Just wondering what year you graduated? Again, as always amazing photos!

I was the happiest of campers when it was announced that the City finally approved this.

I graduated in 1988 at Claremont. I went back for a half year in 1989. My Brother graded in 1985 and my sister graded in 1992. Still friends with a lot of my classmates from Claremont.

Me too. It was a surprise as I didn't know it was up for a public hearing or I would have gone. I'm hoping for the same result for the London Drugs site. I need to find out when that public hearing is so I can go.

I'm surprised Geoff Young spoke out against this proposal, describing it as a "big building". Really? 6 stories is a big building to you Geoff? I can't even imagine what he thinks about the new 25 story Hudson building. It took 11 years for this lot to finally get approved but I guess he would rather the lot stay vacant for another 43 years

I totally agree Phil. I always had thought that Geoff Young was in favor of taller and high density proposals. Strange he was so said against this one. Makes no sense.

Dumb that he said that. So should we then frown upon "big buildings" such as The Empress, the Government Street Post office and the Hudson Bay?

I'm not sure what he was thinking when he said that.

I took this photo from the top of The Orchard House in August of 2007. I really need to get back on top of this building to do a new photo with all the new buildings. It'll be tough because of covid... I wonder if I could offer someone who lives there so money to let me take some new photos.
