Didn't the city float around a proposal of some kind for a possible mall/residential conversion for Talking Stick if the Suns were to get a new arena built a couple of years ago?

Wondering if Bob Parsons is involved. He bought Westgate this summer - I’m sure he’d want to protect his investment by keeping the Coyotes there. He claimed to have ‘big plans’ for the area.

This was pure speculation and there is no supporting evidence to suggest they would move to Houston.

The City of Phoenix has put together a very good information page on the arena renovation with a very informative Q&A. Probably worth the read if would like more clarification on what's all involved, the costs, economic impact, etc.

Love the transparency! Really informative in terms of where dollars are allocated. Didnt know the Suns invested that much in the beginning, makes sense for the city to pay more now.

I'm glad they are doing this. It's important to let people know that the money is coming from tourism, and that the funds aren't ones that would go towards fixing potholes or hiring the police.

I agree. Not sure if it’ll make a difference. Its an off cycle vote - and people who vote in those have given all our sports teams trouble for decades over new arenas. Its their favorite kind of NIMBYism other than fighting any structure over 50ft tall going up miles away from them...

I was obviously speculating as I don't trust a word that the Coyotes say.

To me 'Phoenix area' means indian land if they do stay in AZ.

Putting arena renovation costs into context

With the recent announcement that Seattle is getting a new NHL franchise there's interesting news about their arena.

Looking at the map this makes little sense to me; well maybe a little (as I suggested).

My understanding is the Dbacks are having 'heat maps' done to determine where fans and season ticket holders come from. This is what Atlanta did before deciding where to move to which has worked out nicely for them.
