Crime in Saskatchewan and Manitoba

As suggested, a thread to discuss all crime-related issues for those wishing to have those discussions.

Tough day with 2 persons killed by the police in Winnipeg within 12 hours - one involved a stolen vehicle and its occupants stealing alcohol from a liquor store in Sage Creek and then careening into several vehicles while trying to evade police...one of them a 16 year old girl was shot and killed in the incident. The other incident involved a 36 year old man with a gun in a domestic dispute during the time of the incident.

Proving that there are ramifications to anyone’s actions and both would be alive had they not chosen to break the law! Sometimes the consequences can be deadly, sad but true.

People are getting brazen because they think there aren't consequences to acting a certain way. I also think the general sense of tension is not helping things right now, it might be fueling some people to take those "end of the world anyways" types of risk.

Allowing liquor store thefts to spiral out of control is on the current govt.in charge, inaction led to this death and the serious assault on the liquor store employee a few months back.

Apparently the 16 year old who succumbed to lead poisoning was a repeat offender!

cops are useless murderers. if their solution to crime is just to shoot people, why not just give everyone a gun and get rid of a police force? there are more than enough people I see every day breaking the law (especially in cars and wearing business suits)

keep being brainwashed by the ruling class and hating other people who are struggling, that's what they want. the real problem is kids stealing $100 worth of booze, not corporations stealing billions from working people or land from people, who by all legal definitions, have the right to it.

The domestic case seems pretty open and shut at first glance. The guy had a gun and would not drop it, what were the police supposed to do? Talk him down?

The case involving the 16-year old is unclear based on the information released in the article.

What about those kids in the stolen car smashing into other cars and a police car while they attempted to get away headhorse? They could have killed people...all for some alcohol. What about that?

not call the cops? don’t start a chase over some booze? as evidence by the chart above, we as a society allow billions in theft every year and praise the people who do it as leaders.

So when a theft occurs, people should not call the cops? Let's wait and see if these kids committed an armed robbery shall we? That's not clear just yet. Or perhaps some of the kids assaulted some of the staff and customers in the store while they attempted to steal liquor....they did threaten harm to the staff. That would warrant a call to the police, don't you think?

Or perhaps in the heat of the moment, the staff member(s) who called the police should have stopped and said to themselves, "hmmm, we allow capitalist pigs to steal billions from us so this theft of alcohol and threat of physical violence is a rather trivial matter...nah, I won't bother calling the cops."

Just out of curiosity, what is the methodology for computing these numbers?

Ridiculous. Why not just open your front door and let people take what they like huh? Because that's what you are advocating here.

Good luck with that.

Just as a little counterpoint, I decided to run a quick google search to find the cost of non-work by employees (surfing the web, texting, long lunches, long coffee breaks, sitting around BS-ing - just the usual stuff) for which they were paid. What I found were estimate ranging from $139 Billion to $759 Billion per year, and that was old data. Actual employee fraud is above and beyond that. The total in your graphic for money "stolen" by employers was $39.2 Billion. So cry some more about how the poor working class is being oppressed by the capitalist pigs.

This entire conversation thread has basically nothing to do with construction and honestly should be scrubbed from the board by the mods.

Agreed If not scrubbed, at least moved to Western Expresso. Started off-topic and has since moved even more off-topic. I'm guilty of making it worse.
