e_r, here's all that I could find in a quick check of the LA Times archive. It's from a long long article which doesn't otherwise mention the club:

LA Times, 9/20/1958

edit add:

And this long-winded link takes one to a page of interest in the Journal of the California State Assembly:

https://books.google.com/books?id=tMp43AmMICgC&pg=RA1-PA51&dq=%22culver+auto+dealers%27+club%22&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjxz8r78_npAhX6JzQIHTqUCT4Q6AEwAHoECAIQAg#v=onepage&q=%22culver%20auto%20dealers'%20club%22&f=false

You see:....Frank Gehry's last name, before he changed it, was Goldberg. . .and Gehry's father's first name was Irving.

Irving "Ruffy" Goldberg according to his rap sheet was born in Illinois in 1895.

Irving Goldberg, Frank Gehry's father, was born in New York on December 25 1900.

from wiki:

Born:
Frank Owen Goldberg
February 28, 1929 (age 91)
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

America's nightmare no talent architect.....Frank Gehry.
He's considered an import designer....that is, if you like chaos, combined with visual mental illness.

He is clearly an important designer and has undeniably been a positive contributor to the LA cityscape for over 50 years. From an actual architecture critic—no less than Reyner Banham, regarding Gehry's 1968 Danziger Studio:

"...what is important and striking is the way in which this elegantly simple envelope not only reaffirms the continuing validity of the stucco box as Angeleno architecture, but does so in a manner that can stand up to international scrutiny. The cycle initiated by Schindler comes round again with deft authority."

When Gehry was doing derivative and copy-work of other architects he could do excellent designs.

Then something went wrong.

The design of the Disney Hall in LA was so defective the exterior had to be partially resurfaced.

I think that bolded part was meant, at the very least, as a dig for you and I, CBD.

A journalist asked Frank Gehry what his response was to people who accused him of creating architecture for show:

"Let me tell you one thing. In the world we live in, 98 per cent of what gets built and designed today is pure shit," responded Gehry after raising his middle finger to the questioner. "There's no sense of design nor respect for humanity or anything. They're bad buildings and that's it." El Mundo

I agree with Gehry, 98% of what Frank builds is exactly what he said. He's very self-aware, I guess.

Seriously, like these atrocities: The Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle or The Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas. -- which, if you ask me, Frank Gehry should check himself into...immediately.

Hmmm...does giving the finger to a journalist equate to "respect for humanity?"

Yes, you are very correct Martin.

Gehry designed a residence hall for a university on the east coast. There were so many defects in the design, they figured it was cheaper just to tear the building down. Gehry has no respect for human beings.
In many circles Gehry is considered toxic. He's the last architect they would consider.

Personally, I love Gehry's work. Disney Hall is brilliant. Do all lines have to be straight and perpendicular? No. And the reason it had to be resurfaced was because it was too shiny, not because it was defective. Maybe you should keep your negative opinions to yourself.

Wow are you and CBD a bunch of beauty hating old men. The Ruvo Center is, like Disney Hall, modern and beautiful.

Funny thing is he's giving the finger to someone with a negative opinion such as your own.
I suppose back in the 20's you'd be screaming at architects for moving away from Beaux Arts and into Deco...

So Frank Lloyd Wright was a horrible architect? His buildings were notoriously leaky.

Well Martin, Kevin is now attacking us on a personal level.
Is it possible Kevin could just state his opinions with the personal attacks?

Jeez, I'm sorry I brought up Frank Gehry. ... I understand being a critic of his work but the visceral hatred is downright bizarre.

Let's move on.

As a fan of his work (OK, Santa Monica Place was nothing special), I agree with this sentiment. And dumping on Gehry has already been done in this thread.

Next.

Beaudry also mentioned that the Tishman 615 building was a blue color before a recent(?) makeover.

This slide, from an earlier post on its neighbor the Gates Hotel, shows the original striking blue color.

huntington archive / posted earlier by Hoss

There are also a couple good views of the Tishman 615 during the opening minutes of The Omega Man. [1971]

The first glimpse is as a reflection in Charleton Heston's windshield.

This next view, which I'll post a bit larger, shows both the Statler Hotel (on the left) and the Tishman 615 (on the right).

...Mr. Heston is in that teeny tiny red car on Figueroa..oops Wilshire. (I see the REX ARMS)

Here's the 1:45 video. It's very cool.

While I was snooping around the underworld of illegal gambling in Los Angeles I happened upon this 1940's Noll & Company matchbook.

The front has a roulette wheel. .

worthpoint

The back a pair of dice.

worthpoint

The inside of the matchbook is especially gambly. ..(I created a word)

worthpoint

I wonder who owned the company? . . .mobsters, perhaps?

Oh my! I had no idea about the tragic fire, GW.

hmm. . .I'm a bit surprised Noll's dice factory was located on Wilshire Blvd. I pictured it in an industrial area.

AND NOW:

The Case of the Mystery Bellhop Statue. . .

DETAIL

Located (somewhere) on San Fernando Road. [1937]

Here's the whole statue. (I wanted to shock you with the scary head)

Sotheby's

Edward Weston
1886-1958

'LOS ANGELES MONUMENT' (BELLBOY STATUE, SAN FERNANDO ROAD)
signed, titled, dated, and annotated 'No. B. 8.' (crossed out) by the photographer and annotated by Mary Weston Seaman in pencil on the reverse, matted, 1937
9 1/2 by 7 1/2 in. (24.1 by 19.1 cm.)

Let's inspect the surrounding area.

First the left side.

If you look closely there might be a name (artist's?) within the rectangle that you see on the base.

And now the right. You can clearly see a gently rolling hill.

I have no idea what this statue is commemorating or where on it was located. (other than San Fernando Road)
