McConnellsburg, PA

McConnellsburg is a borough in south central Pennsylvania, and is the seat of Fulton County. The population is around 1,200.

McConnellsburg was founded in 1786 by Daniel McConnell, whose family settled in the Great Cove Valley. The community was started on a pioneer trail that went to Philadelphia. That trail later became the Chambersburg-Bedford Turnpike in the 1800s, and then the Lincoln Highway in 1914.

Today, McConnellsburg is a small town on US Route 30, which connects much of southern Pennsylvania. Isolated from larger settlements by the Appalachian Mountains on most sides, McConnellsburg is sheltered from growth further east in Pennsylvania, and further south in Maryland.

Nice! If you edited out some of the cars in these photos and made them black and white they could easily be mistaken for 100+ year old photos.

Such a wonderful valley and the mountains surrounding McConnellsburg have a higher prominence than most in PA. I love the PA length of Lincoln Highway, especially from Ligonier through to Lancaster. Bedford, Everett, and McConnellsburg have a well preserved lot of 18th and 19th century buildings.

I haven't been through in years but it's a charming little place and nice to see that it has been kept up. Thanks for sharing!
