Photo Contest #46 - Panoramic [voting]

Sweet mother of panoramic. The most entries we've had in a while.

I couldn't rehost these as there's a size maximum where my photos live, so no cheating when you're voting and I hope there's no viewing issues, be patient, the screen does take a while.

If you do have problems, you can try right-clicking on any red X's that show up to snag the properties and paste the address into another browswer window. I did some testing and it's been working reasonably, only one didn't show up once so far for me.

The detail and complexity of number 1 keeps drawing me back to it.

i like 3, 8, 9, 10, 13 and 16. i'll vote later though.
14 is awesome, but not wide enough.
6 would be awesome except for the vertical lines of differing colors...which are in a lot of the entries. the wider the better IMO, and i can't vote for one with the nasty vertical lines ruining it where the pictures match up. sorry, pano software's too readily available to be seeing that.

Poooh, you are all such technology and perfection freaks around here. I voted for #6. I think it's cool with the vertical lines and the grainy feel. Photography isn't just about sharpness, perfection and expensive equipment.

But it was a tough choice. Other favorites: 3, 4, 13 & 14.

heh, i'm normally not such a technologist/perfectionist (i do post holga threads after all,) but with panoramas...i can't stand hard vertical lines on new panos. they look cool when they're page fold from old National Geographics though.

10 just made me drool. Simplicity and complexity in perfect balance.

(There are versions of 6 which do not have the exposure lines. However, I decided to take the contest proposition literally and used the hand stitched version with lines instead of a software stitched version without lines. It was an aestetic choice which I knew would cost me votes, but that's ok. I'm happy with the picture. )

oooo....10 might be my favorite because it's a panoramic in the truest sense of the word. that's a HELL of a tough shot to stitch that flawlessly and mad props for being able to do that one with such an even exposure all the while having to move around the structure to get those viewpoints.

from someone who loves panos to another: great, great job on #10

btw, i think these are best viewed NOT by just looking at this page, but one really needs to click "view image" on each of them so that you're not getting confused about the aspect ratio of one print to another. other contests work well with all on the same page....but i find this to be an absolute clusterfuck and really can't appreciate each pano properly unless i viewed each image separately

I picked 14 because of the level of difficulty of panos at night and with a lot of small detail such as lowrises like in that photo. This was a hard contest, though. I also really liked number 11. Great angle there.

3, 10, 13, and 14 were the picks of the litter for me.

3 is well composed and the subject is hot but I've seen that picture before (and more than once).

13 is a PERFECT slice of life picture. I feel like I'm on the bridge. I love how naturally the picture brings you into the city in a non-touristy way (the man on the bridge looking out, the couple kissing on the bridge)...very nice.

14. Crisp, bright, and quite nice. I appreciate the difficulty of this shot. I would have composed it differently but as it is it was really really good. Definitely worth enlarging and putting up on the wall.

But my vote went to....

10. This shot is perfect to me. The composition is nice, the panorama is flawless, but it's the subject (and the weather) that make it for me. It's almost like looking at a sculpture.

Definately good entries in this contest.

10 is fantastic. That is a true panorama. My entry shows a fairly narrow angle of view, so it's really just a high-resolution composite and not a panorama.

Yay! Thanks everybody!

The next contest's topic will be "unusual"... (weird, not familiar)

I'm still surprised that #9 only got 3 votes. While there are quite a few good images in this contest, everything about #9 is PERFECT! It looks like the image quality you'd find in National Geographic. Great job Upward (even if you didn't win).

I thought about submitting this one, but figured virtical panos would be frowned upon.
That and the haze and lack of anything visually interesting in East St. Louis kinda ruined it. But it is still an interesting perspective.
