Miami-Dade Transit to plans extend metromover to Marlins Stadium

Hi All,

Miami-Dade Transit will plans to extend the Metromover from Government Center to Marlins Stadium as well as new soccer stadium. The last extend service to Brickell in early 90s.

Yeah, I notice that. I am pretty sure if they will considered it. Hopefully they will be approved. I think it's right choice to extend the metromover to Marlins stadium and they don't have to take shuttle bus to/from metrorail station anymore.

The only issue I see with this is capacity issues. I feel like there will be way too many people for this technology to handle during game days.

And I wonder if this thing will run normally on non-game days.

How long is the platform at government center?

This line could support longer trains of vehicles than usual.

It needs to go to Miami Beach! It would become one of the heaviest used lines in the country if it did.

I love how they pursue this extension rather than any of the other possible extensions to the transit system that would be useful to residents or tourists on a daily basis.

Maybe they should use the MHI Crystal Mover that was just used for the airport?

It's only 3.5 miles more from the airport station to Marlins Stadium.

Plus the Crystal Mover is significantly faster than the Innova 100 used on the present Metro Mover loops, and can be set to serve capacities of up to 48k per hour.

They can't! They cannot have extend the metrorail from MIA Airport Station to downtown Miami via Marlins Stadium. They don't have enough money. Stay where they are! You can take Metrorail to Government Center from MIA Airport station.

If the county can get the rights to the CSX tracks it will be a Tri-Rail extension from the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC). The only way it would be a Metrorail extension is for the county to buy the right of way and remove the freight tracks. Either way if this does come to fruition it would be a great relief for east & westbound commuters.

I disagree. If brand new tracks are laid in the existing rail corridor properly they should be able to share the corridor if there is enough room. Commuter trains will be required only if they have to share the same tracks.

Well they said it would cost $102 million to make it passenger-ready and that would cover stations and some additional track used for passing so this means it would be Tri-Rail commuter rail. A one mile extension of Metrorail costs about $100 million dollars so it's not going to be Metrorail at this point.
Adding additional tracks would require enough space as you mentioned but some areas along this corridor are narrow since it runs south of the airport.

Not even close. Unless you're expect twice the entire population of Miami to ride it every day.

Nice to see them expanding this though, Miami is starting to catch up and surpass it's Southern companions when it comes to transit.

Maybe UrbanImpact meant one of the most used lines in the county instead of the country? It certainly will be heavily used.

Not yet. I think they have wait for a while. I doubt it will happens in a distant future.
