181 Fremont to break ground ASAP

"Having acquired the Transbay parcel and approved plans to build a 52-story tower with 14 floors of condos over 400,000 square feet of office space and a spire reaching 800 feet, Silicon Valley builder Jay Paul plans to break ground on 181 Fremont as soon as possible."

And a sweet animation to go along with it.
I love this tower!

From what I understand in the article is that all they are waiting for is the current tenant inside the building that will be demolished to be properly evicted and move the hell out to make way for this glassy beautiful beast

(2- 3 months)

...Tomorrow, the city of San Francisco will announce RocketSpace’s current 181 Fremont location will be demolished to make way for a new Transbay Tower transportation hub.

So after a year of searching, tomorrow [3/29] RocketSpace will announce the lease of a 50,000 sq. ft. space just north of Market Street at 180 Sansome. Eventually it hopes to take over that whole tower. But RocketSpace Suites is just the start of its expansion. It’s currently looking at a 90,000 sq. ft. Bay Area space to replace the Fremont home it will have to vacate....

Here's another rendering from the official press release:

Also, Bloomberg reports that the development cost of the tower is $375 million:

Quote:
A San Francisco developer’s plan to build a 54-story office and residential tower in the city’s South of Market neighborhood will cost about $375 million, according to a person familiar with details of the proposal.

Builder Jay Paul Co. plans to “immediately commence construction” of an 800-foot (244-meter) high rise near the site of the city’s new Transbay bus and rail terminal, the San Francisco-based real-estate firm said yesterday in a statement. The building will also be near an office tower planned by Boston Properties Inc. and Hines that’s set to be the city’s tallest.

I really like how it is so thin, from all angles. The SF skyline is going to be on par with NY and Hong Kong in density within the next few years, will be truly amazing.

I wouldn't go that far. Even if all these projects get completed--which will require the SF economy to continue chugging along and approvals from the SF gov't bureaucracy-SF's skyline won't be close to NYC, or even Chicago. I think it'll be on par with LA and Houston/Dallas.

If all those Renzo towers that were proposed in mid-2000s were built, then it would be more impressive. The Sun towers on Treasure Island should also be interesting

OK I misspoke.. not on par, obviously, but comparable.
I don't find LA's skyline very dense at all, it's pretty sparse, same with Houston. The people density of SF is second in the country next to NY.

I don't know how you can compare this to SF's skyline:

I agree. LA and Houston have San Francisco beat in average height, but the density and width of the skyline come nowhere close to San Francisco. As far as density goes, San Francisco is definitely #2 behind New York, and it will soon be getting much better. The San Francisco skyline will never catch New York or Chicago for pure impressiveness, but it is leaps and bounds above all other major cities. The only one that comes close in my mind is Seattle.

Really, really like this one--and since the aspects I like are based on the proportions, geometry and structuring rather than the skin, I have faith this one will end up as pleasing to me as the renderings are.

Wow this is a real beauty! Heller Manus Architects did a great job with the spire which just adds that extra touch of elegance.
