I just see it as an opportunity for those who don't have the experience - to get the experience.

And after all, the detail i'm asking for pales in comparison to what would be expected at a professional level. These details really don't need to take a great amount of time, the use of tools such as copy paste can drastically reduce the time spent creating a model - For instance the model i posted a link to above took me only a few hours to complete.

Saying that, if anyone is interested in learning techniques to reduce time spent i am more than willing to help. Maybe i could do a video next time i build one?

It's cool, I've finished doing the terrain, now just need to tweak the road map then intersect it into the map and create the lots. Thanks for trying tho.

here's my building, you think it has enough detail in on the roof??

Spot Relative to map:

And Download if it is detailed enough:
http://rapidshare.com/files/42555395...Save_Hotel.skp

P.S: i couldn't find the original spot to a found a spot which it fit nicely and i built a quick park behind it sorry if the park is not to standards.

Edit: Just found which spot it's suppost to go in it's the pink one before the orange triangle. if you want you can move it there and delete the sub-standard park but if it's fine there then that's better

Nice Building, i like it. Only thing is that its doesnt look to scale with the map. The streets were meant to be 16 meters wide, if the map got redused to 75% that would be still 12 meters. You should use this as reference and rescale your building

Made a quick screen just to show you. The building is 258 meters high (without spire)... Map is original scale (streetwide 16 meter)

Ok, here it is. I've been building it for over a month but I took some massive breaks so probably only 2 weeks of working on it.

Here is a little snippit of what I got:

Also very nice Ying!

okay but how do you rescale a building without completely destroying it?? may seem a simple answer but it hasn't crossed me yet. oh and what scale is it as well?

Just rescale the map. Take the measure tool, measure the sreet wide and tipe in 12 or 16 meter. Reimport your model. Done

Ok, the i thought it was to big. My fault Or maybe its because theres no sidewalk. That would be 4 meter on the inner line of the whole block.

Toyota, your building is great!

Hope you dont mean you scrap the first building you showed us, that was great too!!!

not sure what the dimensions of your map were, but we're trying to keep it at 1200x1200 meters/4000x4000 ft (smaller than a square mile!).

that way we can keep the city organized and fill it in quicker.

another thing we can do is make quadrants and we can increase the size to 1800x1800meters/6000x6000 ft and fill in quadrants all at once. not sure how that would go though...

Hang on dudes, don't get too specific until I've finished the map, because some of it is changing slightly from the original.

Sorry, thought you got the layout file. The whole City was about 1500 to 1330, the street grid 1470 to 1190

As i send you in the pm, i realized that my street grid was to narrow anyway, so to use my grid as intended it would require to scale up the street wide to 20 meter

I dont have a problem downsizing it, i think the grid Mo worked out is good for the downsized layout. Otherwise we would have just one building per block. Not sure about the topography, thought it would come out much better as it is now. But dont have a problem with this either. I just want to start

Gonna stop doing anymore until people start sprouting
out some sketchs...

to be placed by you.

toyota74 I guess we'll all decide where they get placed, The biggest block is pretty close to size of the one in your pic which contains some fine looking models btw.
