I got to thinking about it and wonder if it could be related to the plans for the Eagle Saloon, the Iroquois Theater and the Karnofsky building.

The recent article does have a quote about infill “You won’t see a 20-story building there. It’ll all be about the same height.”
https://www.theadvocate.com/new_orle...b1a9f6f7f.html

But maybe that is referring only to the block facing Rampart. The whole area is zoned CBD-1 with height only limited by the FAR of 14 (which is the most intensive zoning in the city). So it wouldn't be too difficult to bundle it all into one project with a tower facing Loyola and low rise buildings facing Rampart. Even easier to get approvals if it includes restoration of the historic buildings and with Drew Brees as an investor, you're not going to have too much opposition.
ill reach out to the person again today and see if theres anything new

ok person told me some hold ups with "tax credits/historical appearance"... i think this project is related to the rubensteins project mentioned earlier but dont know for sure

State Palace Hotel

Also, if everyone here can send in a quick email stating support for BZA Variance they are seeking that would be really apppreciated. Emails of support get added to the official document so it definitely helps . I sent one last week and they were very appreciative of that.

Email strahan@trapolinpeer.com... basic points to make is that your in favor of height waiver because it makes the project financially feasible.. keeping the theatre and activating the whole block are huge priorities... extra height makes the project work ... and i appreciate them trying to keep the theatre and this makes it worthwhile to do so...

Does Eldorado buying Harrah's New Orleans owner Caesar's affect casino's big plans? No, GM says

Eldorado Resorts is buying Caesar's Entertainment Corp., the owner of Harrah's New Orleans Hotel and Casino, in a $17.3 billion deal that will create the largest gaming operator in the U.S.

The takeover will result in a company that controls 60 casinos and 51,000 hotel rooms spread across 16 states and five countries.

In addition to Harrah's New Orleans, the only land-based casino in Louisiana, the new company will control the Harrah's Louisiana Downs in Lake Charles and the Horseshoe Bossier City. Eldorado owns the Belle of Baton Rouge, the Eldorado in Shreveport and the Isle of Capri in Westlake.

The takeover comes just a month after the Louisiana state legislature struck a deal to extend Harrah's New Orleans' casino license by 30 years to 2054. The acquisition isn't expected to sidetrack that agreement, according to regulators and company officials.

Monday's mega-deal will result in the sale of some casino operations before the deal closes next year, Thomas Reeg, Eldorado's CEO, said on a conference call with investors and media. But he didn't specify which of the casinos might have to go.

It's not clear whether or not any of the combined company's Louisiana casinos will be sold as part of the acquisition, should Eldorado decide, for instance, to focus on other core properties, or if the Federal Trade Commission decides that Eldorado controls too large a share of the gaming market.

But state officials said they don't currently expect any changes at the New Orleans property, despite a complicated sale-and-leaseback arrangement with a third company that is occurring as part of the broader deal.

I could see them selling a casino in shreveport where they overlap but otherwise I think it makes no difference really. this was discussed a potentially happening when the deal was being negotiated since there were already rumors they were being bought out by a competitor!

A couple cool bits I just saw...

American is adding a new direct flight to Phoenix in December. I see the flights go until April -- is this normal for a "trial" period or does this mean it's seasonal only flights?

CITY SECURES $16.3M FOR CONSTRUCTION OF MIRABEAU WATER GARDEN

The City of New Orleans has secured $16.3M for construction of the Mirabeau Water Garden to begin winter 2019.

The health and safety of the community will always be our priority as we continue to design and construct innovative, green infrastructure projects like the proposed Mirabeau Water Garden.

We have heard and responded to the calls of residents inquiring about maintenance of the area; the grass has been cut on the perimeter and the interior.

Once complete, this project will:

Divert water from the municipal drainage / pumping system
Improve air, water and soil quality
Reduce flood risks for surrounding properties
Reduce urban heat with an increased tree canopy
Store up to 11 million gallons of storm water
