Adjaye's Harlem project is horrible and a blight on the graceful neighborhood of Sugar Hill.

This FiDi project is not much better. It's straight out of Philip Johnson's wastebasket. It might look better near Lincoln Center.

Interesting. On a whole, I like it.

Pros: golden facade, curved windows
Cons: top, line of two 'non-windows'

What the hell are those things? It looks like two rows of windows have been boarded up with plywood. And what's happening at the top? Is that the core visibly extending to the top? Cooling tower? What?

Since the 6sqft article indicates the renderings are not final, maybe these unaesthetic elements will be improved or eliminated.

It does have a very Lincoln Center/70s vibe, especially with the window shape and gold framing. It reminds me also of the interior of the old short black WTC buildings.

The crown looks like an aqueduct. I have no idea what the cube/tower is beyond - must be a strange mechanical shed.

Really no use in commenting yet, we don't really know what the final design will be:

Quote:
Though these initial concept images are interesting, there is no telling what the final renderings will look like. A spokesperson for Adjaye Associates has stated that they "only reflect early conceptual studies of the building."

S/he also stated: "We remain in the process of refining and evolving the design, with imagery adjusting accordingly. We look forward to sharing final renderings in the coming months.” We'll be following the project closely.

One positive about those renderings: 30 Park Place looks magnificent.

Excavation Making Headway For Lightstone’s 130 William Street, Financial District

Quote:
Though the on-site rendering is perhaps the least descriptive of any such image in New York City, essentially depicting a series of squiggly lines, actual images of the buildings were made public earlier this year. The tower will eventually stand 61 floors and 800 feet to its pinnacle, with a design by David Adjaye that will become the renowned architect’s first contribution to the Manhattan skyline.

Within the skyscraper, there will be 15,373 square feet of retail space on the cellar through second floor, and about 370,000 square feet of residential space above that. The Real Deal reported that the project would have 244 units, but DOB filings list 188. In either case, the condominiums will be very generously sized, and the new retail will contribute further to the booming Fulton Street corridor.

Excavation began in April, and crews appear to be getting close to the depth needed for foundation work to begin. The on-site signage indicates an expected completion date of spring, 2020.

I love a big tall "overall-facade"
of a thousand punched-in individual windows . .
like 99 Church (30 Park Place), 30 Rock, & the Pan Am/MetLife . .
The 800 ft. height & "tower-proportion" of 130 William,
will look pleasant, if not exciting, on the downtown skyline. .
Hopefully the big boys won't diminish/value-engineer 130's concept
(in the rendering) . . & that it's seriousness, will distract
from another modern tower on William . . the cheap
bright yellow & black bumble bee . .

I'm curious how the facade will pan out in person. The rendering looks like they upped the sharpness too much, and brightness to make the golden like facade standout. I suspect it will be much mellower in person. At its height, surely I hope it doesn't become an eyesore.

Ugh. Concrete? Concrete can go wrong so easily - see 5 Beekman. Yes Ian Schrager did it nicely at 215 Christie, but I'm guessing this doesn't look nearly as nice.
