hmmmm,

so we have 4 different proposals at 30 floors, 31 floors, 36 floors, and 80 floors, respectively.

one of these things is not like the others.........

i'm gonna hope for the best here, but 3 out of the 4 development teams who submitted proposals don't believe the site in question pencils out to anywhere near an 80 story structure. time will tell.

It's too bad that 31-story tower's design isn't the one for the 80-story tower. That 80-story one is lacking something. This 31-story design is great, though.

The curve is in the wrong position, it should face the and become the gateway for Hennepin and Nicollet. The design is fine but it is apparently the smallest of all. Compromise design for height? I find the 80 story building superior.

Some observations on the Duvall proposal:

-With Norwest, IDS, and First Bank towers all around 775 ft, the proposal should be between 950 and 1000 ft to really stand out.

-The design shown here has a long way to go to qualify as "iconic" -the Pelli designed Norwest Center should be the benchmark, NOT 111 W Wacker.

^^ I'll grant you... it isn't the greatest design but there will be a few changes in the design if chosen. But the "kicker" for this one is the fact it's 900'+! And in Minneapolis and other Midwest cities (except Chicago), these cities have been so height challenged and development starved for 20 years.... A tall building is needed... not more uninspired Mid-rise Crap! IMO!

hahaha, you are funny...Minneapolis has been so far from Development starved for 20 years. Does a building have to be over 40 stories to count as development? Minneapolis has added over 15,000 people since the last census...There was also a fairly big office and cultural building boom in the early 2000's...plus two new stadiums. There has been TONS of development in Minneapolis the past 20 years, believe me. I don't even know the official count of new apartment units in the city the past 5 years, but I think it is 10,000+

i like the new render. really clean and crisp. if it moves forward, a design this minimal will be all about the detailing of the curtain wall. ralph johnson can pull it off, but be wary of the VE hatchet.

Naw, you are talking about very tall buildings I guess. I mean, in the past 20 years Minneapolis has seen 5 buildings in the 450-500 foot range, and 5 buildings in the 300-400 foot range. It's just funny, because outside of the few biggest cities in the US, it isn't common for any city to build taller than that frequently. Again, hardly been development starved here.

There are also currently 3 300 foot buildings under construction. These are all "high rises". I guess you are talking more about real "skyscrapers", which again are not all that frequently built in mid size US cities. Hopefully it is time for another now! The way you talk you would think Minneapolis is stagnant, when in reality, it has been very quickly developing. 900 foot buildings aren't everything.

^^ Mike: I Never said that 900 footers were everything....But a couple of them would sure be nice! Anyway, I can only think of two buildings over 440' to be built over the last 20 years.... Am I missing something? LaSalle project doesn't count (350').

Tall or not, Minneapolis has a lot of buildings I would like to sneak up there and swipe when no one's looking.
