Wonder if this is just to deflect attention from the 14-storey proposal across the street people were agonizing about.

I believe this is New Horizon (based on the previous application and project trailer), and that project was DeSantis. They could be working together though.

We'll have to wait and see!

it's actually a smart move by them. There is currently NO height limit out there. And this development style has been done all along the Gardiner, 401, 427, 403 through the GTA. Good idea to try to bust through into the big leagues in one of the rare areas of Hamilton with no height limit.

I mean it's not an awful spot for height - right next to the highway plus the GO Station opening relatively close

If this slips through , would make the 30 storey max height in downtown Hamilton a complete joke (already a bad one).

There is literally -60% chance this gets approved. 60 floors?! Someone is trying to throw mud at city hall. What else have they tried to build in Hamilton? This is likely a very expensive response.

This is what I like the most about this. Sure has that feel of someone who is tired of this hick-town mindset holding Hamilton back forever. Somehow every single neighbourhood group in the city has developed this idea that we should wall off Hamilton and never let anyone else move here.

No wonder all our university grads flock back to TO unless they want to stay here and make art, furniture or be a barista.

LOL wow what!?!? This little area is going to turn into Hamilton's Humbar Bay (Etobicoke). Who would of ever thought that Hamilton's tallest would end up in Stoney Creek and in an area that is not even serviced by transit lol.

Oh well build it, maybe it's the catalyst we need to bring better transit to the area!

haha…fantastic. While all the NIMBY neighbourhood groups were keeping the attention on treating downtown like it's Simcoe, this long-standing zoning was left in place. Love it.

LOL I'm actually laughing so hard at this. Someone at the city F*cked up real bad by letting that site specific by-law pass. This is gunna be hurting a lot of people and New Horizons is going to be laughing it's way to the bank. What kind of people pass a site specific with *NO* maximums on height or density!?

This is honestly so funny. Can't wait to see how this plays down. The NIMBY's are going to be (probably rightfully, this is no location for 1,800 units of density) fighting this one hard, and the city has it's hands tied. This is as of right - they have a legal requirement to process the SPA application and give them their permits.

I kinda hope this gets built as a "spite house" to modern planning regulations. This is a huge, major slip up in the province's zoning regulations.

I do agree it's funny, but I don't see how this will hurt people? Our city needs to grow. It's gotta be embarrassing being one of the only cities barely able to add population in the middle of Canada's most booming region.

that zoning doc reads like a lot of similar ones in the GTA implemented around that time….strange reading a document from Hamilton where we seemed to actually want to grow the same way as the GTA cities nearby. Sometime since then we've decided we like shrinking and opposing growth.

This is shooting a massive hole in our ridiculous height limit and I love it. 1,800 new condos on the market is a massive positive as well.
