I think something part of the 71st/Stony Island TIF area was issued a permit yesterday. Maybe it's not part of it, who knows (same overall company), but $35 Million renovation to a building for office use

https://data.cityofchicago.org/Build...r8-5enu/308853

Part of this? Same company (listed here: http://www.cityofchicago.org/content...rminutes.pdf):

^ That's cool. And is this through TIF money? Anyway, I hope they are successful..It's good they are not going to demolish this thing. I wonder if Gates has any more projects in sight for the future too. I know he is one interested in revitalizing poorer neighborhoods.

Really, $35m? Is it a larger project than just that building?

Well, I know the TIF for that area is larger than that - I know they want to beautify the sidewalks, roads, etc too. The building permit only makes mention of that building though. It probably includes restoration work and I'm sure beautification around the building, but $35M seems like a lot.

^That is awesome news! $35 million doesn't sound too high, A building sitting empty that long will need a full gutting, new roof and new everything else. I'd also bet the terra-cotta facade needs major work too. Plus with artist studios, I imagine it needs to be fully sprinkled upon renovation as well.

Sorry, your right. I didn't scroll far enough down the article.

Hopefully it doesn't take as long for this to get to work as it did for it to arrive.

[QUOTE=Chicago Shawn;6262830]

I am curious. They did this on one of the senior highrises by me a couple of years ago.

Why are they peeling the corners? Is this for inspection, or for some change in expansion joint technology, or what?

There did not appear to be any loss or damage before they did it.

It appears the new corner brickwork isn't woven, was it like this before?

Looks like the original brick had no control joints, which will kill you if there's only one layer of brick.

CMK to build new townhouse develoment in new Cabriniville

Speaking of CMK Development - just posted a new tidbit on their 1300 s wabash block project in the high rise thread - Curbed is just reporting that they are planning a 60ish townhome development in the Cabrini area, on the former Jenner Elementary School site. I'm not sure of the exact location of the old school, and there will no doubt be some debate as to whether this is dense enough etc (eg why not a mid-rise or two at least?), however I'm excited because this I think will very likely be a big step up in terms of residential design quality for the former Cabrini lands....I pretty much hate all of the CHA mixed income/replacement housing design in the area thus far.....

The location is the block bounded by Oak, Cleveland, Hobbie, and Hudson. Those last two streets are vacated so access will only occur from Oak and Cleveland. The design is modern but kinda safe.

Viva La Pilsen!

Thalia Hall's Modern Co-op Vintage Shop Makes Its Debut This Week. I am excited to see if the team behind Empty Bottle and Longman and Eagle can kick the gentrification into overdrive.

Suprised nobody posted this

Zurich plans new headquarters in Schaumburg

This will almost certainly be a highrise. Probably the only new suburban office tower in years, no?
