Fixed, by someone who jogs by there fairly regularly. Rabbit brook, at least from the corner of Carson/Mapleton to just past the new walking/biking bridge, needs some serious TLC.

I say, go for it. Expand the culvert drain system, infill it, and pave it!

Seriously, look at Google maps. This brook is a run off from that massive project they did a couple of years ago next to Canadian Tire and Wheeler blvd. The run off goes completed under Moncton Chrysler Dodge, Mt Road, Plaza blvd, Mapleton rd. What's another few meters of drain pipe going to hurt?

Red is current underground. Blue is current surface. Yellow is the proposed modification. Image was mine, not official.

Aside from the arguments about the brook, the lot redesign seems like a good one.

It removes a small business entrance off of the VERY BUSY Mapleton.

It also puts an entrance onto a commercial oriented road that already has restaurants on it, improving the synergy a bit of the area.

It does leave the entrance onto the residential street; but I wonder if that could be closed off eventually if most of the traffic starts coming in off Carson road.

Closing off the Mapleton entrance is probably the biggest boon for the city; I'm sure every step they can do to make Mapleton more controlled access the better for them; just to make traffic easier to control.

There was discussion when Costco was sniffing in the area and the proposed other businesses that were to be associated with the Holiday Inn, and the Moncton Chrysler land, that DOT was investigating a way to alleviate the back-up of traffic from the exit ramp onto the TCH. A traffic circle and alignment of Queensway to Northwood were being considered.

Dunno if that ever made it past the brainstorming sessions.

You could apply that logic to this project, and the next, and the next, until it's completely covered up. It's certainly no Sawmill River but will someday need funding to replace or reverse, and that's usually a lot more expensive.

Retail Talk & Share posted several photos of renovations ongoing in the mini-putt area of Magic Mountain this summer:

This is what is going on:

1) - complete redo of the original 36 hole mini putt facility with four independent 9 hole course, each with a different western based theme.
2) - A new bumper boat attraction with the boats electrically powered and fitted out with water squirters so that friends can soak each other as well as bump each other.
3) - electronic shooting gallery with animatronic figures in a western theme.
4) - keeping on with the western theme, a mining sluice where you can "pan" for fossils and gemstones

There is now a temporary sign up in front of the new Moncton North YMCA on Twin Oaks advertising a job fair on July 30th. Just another indication that the grand opening of this facility is approaching.

Emma Place on Mountain Road is beginning to top out. About half of the sixth (and final) floor has been poured.

Regarding the Skipper Jack's Seafood Restaurant proposal for the SE corner of Mapleton/Carson, there is a public presentation in city council chamber on August 17th.

https://www5.moncton.ca/docs/pac/Pub...vis_public.pdf

Quote:
PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Moncton is considering an amendment to the Municipal Plan By-law # Z-113, being By-law # Z-113.28 which proposes to re-designate a portion of land at 211 Mapleton Road from CU (Community Use) to MUC( Mixed Use Centres and Corridors) in Schedule 1 of the Municipal Plan. (PID 70543632)

The proposed amendment would allow for the property to be rezoned from P1 (P-1 Community Use Zone and P2 (Open space and Conservation Zone) to SC (Suburban Commercial)

The land owner is proposing to expand the existing restaurant and parking lot.
Please note that City Council meetings are moving to a virtual format. You can watch via the internet at the following links:
https://www.rogerstv.com/show?lid=12...9&sid=1110

A public presentation to inform the public of the proposed changes will be held
August 17, 2020 in the Council Chambers

Objections shall be addressed to the City Clerk, 655 Main Street, Moncton, NB,
E1C 1E8, or submitted via e-mail at info.clerk@moncton.ca.

Further information may be obtained from the Urban Planning Department website at https://www.moncton.ca/lets-do-busin...lanning-urban- planning/public-notices
or; by contacting Kaitlyn Lacelle by phone at 506-383-7034 e-mail at info. urbanplanning@moncton.ca.
There are a number of new (and/or updated) images available regarding this proposal:

Site plan showing the building reoriented towards the north, and the parking lot extended across where Rabbit Brook is currently located.

Rendering showing the new "lighthouse" facade and entrance.

Conceptual drawings, showing planned landscaping.

The city planning department has already come out as being opposed to this plan, but I don't know myself. I prefer daylighted water features in the city, but Rabbit Brook in this location is a pretty inconsequential waterway, terminating only a few hundred metres upstream anyway. The developer seems to be bending over backwards in terms of rehabilitating and landscaping this property, with many trees to be planted, and the maintenance of the Rabbit Brook Trail. I hope they are given a fair hearing. There are also legal implications since apparently the city "owes" Skipper Jack's some parking based on a previous decision.

The Moncton North YMCA is slated to open on September 5th.

Final touches are still being done to the building. They've just finished construction of a large outdoors play structure.

Yet another new Indian food restaurant in greater Moncton.

Sardar's Cafe is now open in the strip mall adjacent to the NBCC Moncton campus at 1224 Mountain Road.

According to Huddle, the Skipper Jack's proposal has been denied by Moncton PAC.

Casino New Nouveau Brunswick

We have the lowest cases of COVID19 in Canada here in the Maritimes, casinos are open elsewhere in Canada, in Quebec of all places. Casino NB and Casino NS are closed (same owners). What's going on? I've heard rumours online and while talking to people in general; the Casino is for sale, an offer is pending, not reopening, was losing/not making much money prior to COVID19, can't open and be in the black with social distancing, no buffet no profit, no events, and on and on. Anyone in the know?

I've heard the same rumour about an impending sale (affecting the NB and NS casinos). If true, this would likely explain why they have not reopened yet.
