Waye Mason posted some pics of the newly opened, much-widened sidewalk to social media. It looks great!

He wrote that part of the sidewalk is actually within the developer's property. I think I really like this. The way the building cantilevers over the sidewalk provides some shelter to pedestrians (and waiting bus passengers) during crappy weather. And it allows the shops/restaurants to spill out onto the street a bit.

The location of the lamp posts is a bit odd though.

I was very skeptical about the loss of some of the previous buildings on this site, but at least the replacement is shaping up nicely so far.

I got a chance to drive by the Doyle today and have to say it really does wonders for that part of SGR. I was actually surprised how good it looked at street level and overall on the SGR side. The widened sidewalks play a big part of that but so does the overhang of the second floor which creates a different look for the block. The use of black finishes at street level contrasts nicely with the material above, which itself does a good job of mimicking sandstone. I know many wanted to see some of what was there retained, but this looks better in person than it does in pictures.

I think my only with it is similar to other big projects - there's not much variety at the street level - it's kind of a monotonous block right now. That will probably change with tenants, their signage and the construction wrapping up, but it's a trend I've noticed in a few builds.

This looks good. I had significant reservations over demolishing this block, but the new development seems to make a great contribution to the public realm.

I wonder what's going on along the ground level on Queen Street. Looks like a good sheltered spot for outdoor dining.

It feels great walking down Spring Garden past this one. It has a great presence from street level.

I drove by it on Saturday and my impression was "meh", but I'm glad others are enjoying it. It will be nice to see it finished, though.
