The Great Canadian Skyscraper Thread

Figured we need one for our most fabulous buildings, since we already have one for the ugliest. So why not start with our newest top 10 most beautiful building nationwide... Telus Sky!

This isn't just a thread for Telus Sky btw, that was just a starter. It's basically for any skyscraper (100+ metres) that you'd like to show off in your city or elsewhere in the country

1. I like these from ancient times, but you can't see them anymore.

P.S. Totally forgot to mention the best skyscraper in the country, the 1931 Bank of Commerce (tallest in the British Empire upon completion - now hidden).

The Bank of Commerce building is beautiful, and really exemplifies what is possible and also how watered down skyscraper architecture has become. Office towers and condos towers have merged into one sad formula. The only material used now is glass, and it's always green.

One of the ugliest highrises in the country without a doubt. It even creates a terminated vista on Maisonneuve. If I were the owner, I'd be embarrassed.

I'm endlessly waiting for someone to re-clad it or tear it down and build a proper 120m tower. But whoever owns this turd has an apartment building full of high paying renters and a couple floors of renting offices and restaurants. So why spend anything on changing it?

It's not that bad. This should be torn down.

^No need to be torn down. Just give it a proper re-clad. That facade has been repainted black last year. It's somewhat better.

Always love a glass of green whine, but umm.. I just posted some of the best glass/cladding on the continent including a new one (CIBC) which is diamond stunning and sapphire blue... and every other colour in the spectrum depending on its mood.

Maybe you weren't referencing King and Bay. Cheers.

One of my top 3. I have something for old pre-war skyscrapers, too bad we only have a handful in the whole country.

The Sunlife is one of my other favourites.

Sun Life is a gem... wouldn't mind seeing a sort of Sun Life Redux, with a complimentary tower growing out of the layer cake.

We'll get Robert Stern to design it... he's good at that stuff.

What's the minimum number of stories to be considered a "skyscraper"? I'm sure there's even worse than that turd.

That Rogers thing is an abomination.

Vaguely reminds me of a PoMo version of Château Frontenac (colors, proportions, roof shapes). "Château Rogers"?

^ Yeah that's exactly the nickname it earned when built.

BTW, why are you visiting this scraper-themed thread? Has Vancouver built a legit office tower?
