Saw it in person over the weekend for the first time since it was completed-ish. I think it works really well--the fact that it's set back and only a couple of storeys taller works in its favour--adds a contemporary splash to the block without overpowering the existing buildings. It's great.

Very much looking forward to seeing occupancy.

I love it and have loved it since they started it, and I just had it click in my head what that glass wall finally reminds me of....

Glass is finally starting to be installed on the ground floor! Looks great so far, someone should grab a picture if you're in the area soon.

Also, I thought when this was originally proposed, it was to be a boutique Hotel. Just what is it going to be used for now?

Sometime in the last century, and sometime in the next one.

The rightmost building has some new storefront glass. It looks a bit strange; it reminds me of the glass walls on buildings like the new library, not a traditional storefront in a heritage building (the 6 storey building farther to the right has a wonderful 2-storey glass front with iron detailing).

The brick at the top looks a little odd too since it doesn't match the dark red brick below.

The railings are kind of interesting. It's nice that they took advantage of the setback to create a terrace on the 4th floor.

If the yellowish building to the right of the Marble Building is restored this block will look great.

Completely agree about the terrace. Could be a nice location for a restaurant (if that is possible with the design plans).

...
I don't mind the modern glazing - it seems to fit the street scale-wise, while being clear about its era. The Barrington Stree Historic District Revitalization Plan (or whatever it's called) supports modern storefronts within an historic building, if I remember correctly.

Moved out of HFX 5 months ago and came back on here to check on a few projects.

Not surprised this one is still nowhere near completion.

It appears to be almost complete. However, the interior finishes will likely be the responsibility of the future tenants. Many industrial and commercial units are sold or leased as empty shells and then finished to the tenant's specifications.

How is this development pronounced? Is it 'ee' space, as in email, or the French word for 'space'.

That's a good question, and I can't recall the answer...

I do believe this has been brought up before. I see this as French and "espace" is how I'd say it. From my observations, though, I think "e-space" is more commonly used; although I've encountered "espace" enough times to make me doubt how to pronounce this development.

We wouldn't be having this conversation if this development was occurring in New Brunswick.

The developer mentioned in Allnovascotia that he wants to have tenants in the redeveloped buildings by the end of the summer this year - sounds like work is to begin shortly.

In Halifax, the assumption is that there are really only 20 people looking for housing downtown, so this development should be slowly developed so it comes online around 2025.

This was supposed to be retail and commercial... must be working under the same assumption for those markets as well.
