SSP Competition: Olympic Aquatic Center

Congratulations to Burjdubai91 for winning the Worlds Tallest Building competition. The Next comp is Olympic Aquatic Center

Official Rules [READ]
1. DO NOT put any copyright, names or any writing that gives voters the hint that it's your entry. Entries with names/copyrights will not be posted in the voting thread.
2. One entry per forumer.
3. Entries should not include more than 10 renderings/shots.
4. If you win a competition once and then win in the second comp you will not be able to pick the third comp. The second place winner will choose the third comp. [kinda confusing]
5. Avoid sharing or posting your entries here or other places on the web before the final vote.

Competition Rules
1. Must be an aquatic center for Olympic games
2. Location is up to competitor
3. Must include at least two interior shots with pools
4. Must include seats but amount is up to designer
5. BE CREATIVE!

Deadline: December 30th

Let the games begin!

I am going to have to skip this one. I might make a pool but I won't enter it in 15 days.

Actually, this sounds like something I really can do. Of course, I know I've been saying I'll enter, and saying and saying and saying, but this actually sounds like a good challenge for me now that I've gotten back in the swing of modeling.

what do you mean?

The deadline's on the 30th... maybe we don't require the interior renders anymore so others can join?

In all honesty, it's not a very interesting subject, and water is difficult to render. In addition to make a modern lowrise, such as an aquatic center, curves and extremely complex, dynamic geometry is required, as well as landscaping, grass and trees, none of which is handled well by Sketchup. I don't think people don't want to compete, but this is a rather poor choice of a competition for the tools we are using.

How about a nice, simple comp like <700 foot tower. It's broad, open-ended, and let's people's creativity go wild. I think many of the comp have been so specific or difficult that few people want to participate.

I disagree, I think it is a good idea it is something different, you can do everything fine with sketchup. Dynamic curves can be created via sandbox, follow me tool, or an external program like rhino. Plus where does it say anything about dynamic geometry.

Skyscraper competitions are extremely boring. Also every time I have ever tried to do anything creative here it does not receive many votes.

I think in general that the criteria for these competitions is getting so specific and demanding that it’s being viewed more as a full time job and less of a fun activity. I think a more broad and generic competition idea would call for more participation.

The competitions in general seem like a hit or miss…

Exactly. Being too specific really kills creativity, especially for amateurs like myself.

Then again the timing was really off. When people really get settled into their college class routines again, I think it will pick up.
