This is, no doubt, the same Bill Kneen that owned Kneen's Kamp (which I thought we had covered / but I can't locate the posts)

All that said and done; Kneen's 'milk bottle' was located somewhere on Red Rock Road which is quite some distance from the former Keene's Kamp.

So after all that; I'm still not sure where on Red Rock Road Kneen's 'milk bottle' was located.
I'd like to think some of it's crumbled remains might still be up on red rock road.

Not sure , but could it be daughters and/or wives of KKK members??? The racist group was big & powerful in the '20s, even outside of the south. Indiana was controlled by the klan for a time.

Stella was good as Miss Purdy in the original "Nutty Professor" (1963), and so was Jerry. Jerry's best film in my opinion. Not sure if the "Buddy Love" character was based on Dean Martin, Mr. Hyde or was the real way Jerry Lewis was in real life. Buddy Love had confidence. The buck-toothed coke bottle-glassed super nerdy Professor Kelp was the inspiration for the cartoon Professor in "Futurama". Eddie Murphy remake was good, but the original is the best.

I am briefly going far afield for a moment.

Selling the naming rights to Memorial Stadium stinks to high heaven, but as everyone knows, it's happening all around.

Near my hometown, the iconic Assembly Hall at the University of Illinois was renamed The State Farm Center (they dropped the name Assembly Hall completely )

I was only three years old when the Assembly Hall was completed, but every time my family passed by it, or attended an event there (Ice Capades),
my imagination soared to new heights. It was like a massive flying saucer had landed in the cornfields!

and at night it looked like it's about to take off!



a good portion of the building is underground...so when you walk inside it is truly canverous.

So yes, the Assembly Hall was sadly renamed...but the university also considered tearing it down (which is unf*cking-believeable )

If interested, you can learn more about the construction of the massive 4,400 ton dome HERE. (believe it or not, the bottom half of the structure was not excavated until the dome was completed)

*The Assembly Hall was designed by U of I alumnus Max Abramovitz, of Harrison & Abramovitz, NYC.

Aww, man! My mother was a graduate student at the University of Illinois in the early 70s, so I attended several events at the Assembly Hall (including my first rock concert, The Doobie Brothers, in December 1973). Well, it will always be the Assembly Hall to me. Hopefully, it is air-conditioned now, it wasn't in 1975 when my mother got her degree and it was unseaonably warm in Champaign in mid-May. I hadn't known that it wasn't air-conditioned, because all the events I attended had been in the winter, and the heat worked very well. Naming rights are a necessary eveil these days, I guess

This post is kind of ironic, as I am a graduate of USC and saw many USC football games at the Coliseum (as well as a few L. A. Raiders games).

The poster for Hal Roach's film The King of Wild Horses (starring Rex the Wonder Horse) and the pictured Ku Klux Klan brought to mind that I watched a Hal Roach film the other night and Adolphe Menjou was complaining about his wife to his secretary, talking about her coming to bed with creams on and her face covered and he says "When I woke up I thought I was in bed with the Ku Klux Klan."

He also tells his secretary: "Telephone my wife. Find out what we're having for dinner. Tell her I don't like it."

Inrteresting signs in this photo, one for a "Roof Auto Park" and I wonder what the billboard means with the young man on it and the line "For the Million Dollar Boy."

Yes, the area behind the scoreboard is hollow. I think scenes from "Two-Minute Warning" (1976) were shot inside.

Here we're looking north at the side of the scoreboard structure. There is a short flight of steps leading to a door.
We later see police going through that door, showing wiring and what-not inside but it's not super-cramped:

Here's Charlton Heston at the base of the torch, having just climbed that long outside ladder. Small holes like the
one at lower left allow entry to the torch room. There's also a ladder running up the inside of the torch's chimney:

Not Fifth and Olive; Black & White Cab had its HQ in the Wright & Callendar office bldg at 410 S Olive, sure, but this image ain't around there. Billy Baxter was at 17th & Flower but it's tough to make a match now since that part of the world was wiped away by the 10. Was hoping the large bldg with the heavy cornice would yield something but couldn't come up with anything in the area.

Also, not sure Klansmen would hang at Temple Baptist. Baptists are not Protestants and I imagine were looked on as suspect to say the least. Rather, they're probably headed (if they're going to church at all, my guess is this more likely just before a parade) over to 12th & Flower to hear good ol' "Fightin' Bob". A typical 1924 Times ad:

There are pictures of Mr. and Mrs. Kneen and daughter Katherine in Calisphere. Do a picture search of "Thomas W. Kneen" I can't post, or I would do it. There is also a video made by the daughter of Katherine Kneen describing living in the house and in Topanga generally. On the page with the video is a picture of a stone arch built by her grandfather in 1928 for a Mr Hanlon. The arch is located at 21255 Entrada Road.

The picture was taken from midway between 4th and 5th Streets on Olive. The building with "the heavy cornice" is the (back of the) Black Building at 4th and Hill. Here's a 1926 view of the Black & White Cab Co, which shows it surrounded by the Subway Terminal Building. The Fremont Hotel is just out of shot to the right.

The image above is dated 5/5/1926, but if you check out post #20852, you'll see that the garage belonged to the Yellow Cab Co later that year.
