What the fuck? This is worse that Corbusier's plan for Paris.

The only one of these I like is the Burnham plan. The Detroit plan seems like a traffic nightmare... too many diagonals and circuses.

I think with a good light rail/streetcar system, subway system, bike paths and generally way less auto dependence, it would be plenty doable. I don't see the diagonals as much of a problem and the circuses are not to be confused with traffic circles. They are over twice as wide as the large roundabouts in Washington DC, so at that scale you are talking about a series of slightly curved stop-lights at worst. Not a giant roundabout that when mixed with Diagonal streets tends to cause chaos.

It would be confusing. With most repetitive formats you at least know it's one of four directions. Combine that with the lack of geographic cues...

^ Maybe air conditioning would make Midtown a bit less miserable, but I don't see how that thing wouldn't be as hot as a greenhouse.

I'm just picturing the light hitting that dome the right way and shooting a death beam into the city below like a giant magnifying glass.

Ok, so another interesting thing I found was for a massive bridge across the Hudson. It would apparently be incorporated right into a large building. I love how the designer takes a swipe at the Brooklyn bridge.

I FREAKING found it. A plan for the London Elephant area, unfortunately it would have been sort of car centric, which sucks. I just like the circular shape.

I finally found something I have been wanting to post for a while. A new plan for the Pruit Igoe site. It totally abandoned the "tower in a park" concept and creates a much more attractive community. Designed by Samuel John Lima. Really awesome renderings.

I read that the architecture matches that of old St. Louis, anyone from St. Louis care to mention if that is true or not?

Not technically a street plan, but I liked the "Get L.A. Moving" plan for a greatly expanded 400-station L.A. subway system. Click HERE and then click "Map Quickview" under Main to see what I mean.

How did they come up with that? Amazing.

That's interesting.

Other than the nod to the mansard roof, it doesn't really look like what was there in North St. Louis. What was there looked like Baltimore and New Orleans had a baby with a Milwaukee swagger/stagger, or something.

I know its been a few months, so hopefully I am not past the period when I should start a new thread.

Lately I have been obsessing over this plan, a crazy city-beautiful plan for a massive imperial world capital!

Sorry the etching on the bottom image isn't legible. You can still clearly see the U shaped canal running through the city. There is actually another one closer to the stadium you can clearly see in the first image. The source for the first image includes a higher resolution.
