It is such a nice day today I rode my bike across the Golden Ears today and took a few pics on the way. On my bike ride there were another 10 or so cyclists, plus even a few joggers crossing the bridge as well, so it seems the bike lanes on it are catching on

The traffic as well appears to be becoming heavier with many commercial vehicles using it (container trucks, dump trucks, farming supply vehicles, etc...)

That is actually an amazing benefit of the Golden Ears bridge is it properly connects the ALR lands north of the river of the ALR lands south of the river in the area.

Looking back north to Maple Ridge and the Golden Ears Way (and the airport road interchange)

The kick ass bike lane exit ramp south bound on the south side of the bridge.

under the south side approach viaduct

The south side approach viaduct looking north (after the 200th st interchange)

Looking south to the 200th St. Interchange, BC's most impressive / Japanese looking elevated road structure IMO.

All pics are my own!

Cheers!

Great shots Metro. I really want to head to the GEB for some long exposure shots, I think the compo on your second last shot would make a fantastic light trail shot, especially with a wider lens. Is there any lighting on the towers?

^Nice pics. I think golden Ears might be one of the nicest in Canada!

Just two photos I shot of the twins in Halifax on Saturday. They are taken from the same spot and if you are wondering why the MacKay is so busy, this photo was taken ten minutes before it closed for deck repairs (The McD has been the detour bridge every weekend this summer).

Le Tracel, a train bridge in Cap-Rouge, a suburb of Quebec City. It was built around the same time as the Quebec Cantilever Bridge as part of the National Transcontinental Railway project.

Sweet Pics guys! I love how Vancouver and Halifax have nearly the same identical bridge as the gateways into their Harbours. A good bookends for Canada!

I also love how the Okanagan bridge is a floating bridge and looks similar to those found in Florida and other Gulf Coast areas, adds to the "exotic" feel of Kelowna

^ I was just watching something about the construction of the Quebec Bridge the other day. A lot of tragedy for such a beautiful result.

^You are absolutely right : the story of this bridge is tragic. I thought about posting pictures of the bridge because I recently stumbled upon old images of the disaster:

Took my bike over the Pitt River Bridge today.

Here are a few pics:

Looking east from the centre of the span

This is the view looking north from the centre of the span. It is one of my favorite vistas is all of BC, and it is in Metro-Vancouver.

And looking a little more east from the same spot on the bridge is the Golden Ears Mountains (These are the peaks the Golden Ears Bridge is named after)

All pics are my own

Here are some renderings of the new Port Mann Bridge.
With 163m high towers, and 10 lanes wide, it will be by far the largest in the country.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!! I love the old Port Mann bridge...... but reality is reality I guess. I love the large steel tubes that they used to build it....

On the other hand, the new bridge design is nice, but I am torn, it looks just like many other new bridges in the world.......

What do other Vancouverites think? They probably like the reduced road congestion for sure and the future Skytrain capabilities.....

Obviously the new bridge (and the major changes to the highway on either end) are much better than the existing Port Mann, but a lot of Vancouverites would probably agree with you. The existing PMB is a style you dont see too much of anymore, and its replacement is rather ubiquitious. The new one is still a pretty cool looking bridge imo though.

It's too bad the Deh Cho Bridge doesn't get more attention. I like the attention that has been given to building an eye-catching design, and the engineering for that location is quite remarkable.

Problem with this is the failure of the original contractor. And most people think its a waste of money. A strengthened ferry would be considerably cheaper.(They say)
The final design I saw doesn't have the towers.

I think its about time but with all the problem the completion is still some time away.

They need to build the Highway all the way up the Mackenzie for any real benefit.

Yes, I had never heard of it until now. But after reading about it for the last couple of days, maybe there is a reason for the lack of coverage? I bet once some of the major aspects of the desing are built, it will start to garner some attention.
