What is next for Taipei?

With a fairly good number of projects nearing completing in Taipei, it seems like the city will soon reach a point where the basic tier 1/2 infrastructure will be largely completed. In particular, the following public construction achievements happened during the past decade:

- Sewer/Wastewater treatment plant: in the last decade, new sewage treatment plants have increased the treatment rate of households in Taipei from 50% up to nearly 90% as it is now (and similar trends in sewage treatment in all other counties in Taiwan)

- Roads: all roads in Taipei County have been aggressively repaired/repaved and potholes are fairly uncommon now.

- The above also applies to sidewalks

- Electricity: completion of the 4th nuclear power plant as well as all the green initiatives (ie windmills offshore and along the east coast) should provide uninterrupted power to Taipei.

- MRT: after phase 2, all areas in Taipei City will be within 500meters of a station, and most areas in Taipei County will be as well. This was the original stated goal. All TRA stations have been revamped as well.

- New incinerators all throughout Taipei County can adequately handle all trash generated by the city.

- Internet: City-wide wireless has been established.

- Public facilities- Sports and exhibitions venues have all pretty much been revamped and provides more capacity than residents will ever use.

and of course I can go on and on about the freeways that have been constructed and torn down, as well as more public trash cans, revamped elementary schools, dedicated bus trunk lines, etc...

so my question now is, what do you think should be the focus of development in Taipei now that the basic public infrastructure is more or less complete?

Here are some of my suggestions:
1. plant more trees in public squares
2. establish a standard, automated trash collection system rather than relying on the musical garbage trucks
3. increase subsidy and aide in coordination of private community beautification projects
4. expand MRT to Taipei County

what else do you think needs to be addressed in Taipei?

Ok, here are a few possibilities:
- exterior renovation of TMS and city hall
- construction of a city museum
- redevelopment of the Huaguang Community
- redevelopment of the waterfront
- promote the greening of roof tops
- redevelopment of the old Songshan TRA yard
- promote the preservation of old buildings - especially in the vicinity of the Taiwan Museum and Ximen
- convert the Xinsheng Expressway into a park space modelled on the NY highline project

But more international flights are added to that airport.
I recall that you can now fly to Japan from there.

I understand what you mean. There is already limited land
in Taipei and the only way left to go is up!!!

tear down all the buildings - or at least 96% of them - and rebuild them cuz they're all pretty ugly.
