Bowfort Towers look okay. They definitely do look like the funerary scaffolds used by some indigenous groups on the prairies.

I absolutely *love* how compressed these jpegs are:

This whole publication is fucking bizarre, every edition is just a bunch of contractors thanking each other for doing business with each other.

I mean, really, talk about participation trophies!

Why is that someone you want to use as decorations though? Imagine if a city in Europe decided for public art to erect a bunch of giant tombstones along the highway?

Well, if the intent by the artist was to make something else, then yes it is a complete failure.

^^ That newspaper was whipped up by a bunch of amateurs, everything about it is terrible.

I'm so glad to no longer be a graphic designer, I would go medieval on those people if I worked there.

The intent of the artist had nothing to do with funerary scaffolds. It was to display a type of stone unique to Alberta. Funny enough they cited the detail in the stone which no one driving by will ever see.

TBay's number one source for hard hitting business journalism

P.S. Congratulations Mario and Nancy on doing such a great job with your FABULOUS new condominiums!

Yeah. I miss the old thread. If it were still around I would lament the extreme rhetoric going on about the 2026 Olympics right now in our city.

I had the pleasure of being in Calgary when the Bowfort Towers had just been unveiled, and drove by to see them. For the one brief second you can actually see them from a car. To me the ugliest things about it are:

-The City's insistence in putting Public Art at the side of major highways as part of major infrastructure projects. Put the money aside and do something in a park. Landscaping is fine along a highway.

-The overwrought reaction in the public sphere as a result of the towers. The rhetoric had basically devolved into "art is for downtown elite losers who want to suck taxpayers money!!!!".

Other than that, yeah, the towers themselves are kinda ugly. At best they are horribly misplaced.

Have you seen their website?

Fountain Hill Condominiums
FABULOUS!

By Sherry Hanes

You’ll just have to come and see for yourself!
Yes, it's true! I, a gay, couldn't possible imagine the sheer fabulousness that is Fountain Hill Condos!

Quote:
This 24-unit, four floor site, has only six units left to offer
Wow, better hurry up and buy one! Only 25% of the units are left for sale!! That's 1 in four!!!

Quote:
Mario and Nancy can’t be more excited or pleased, nearing the completion (February/March 2019), of Thunder Bay’s newest and ultimately beautiful, condominium site.
Newest, yes. I'll give it that. "Ultimately beautiful"? Like, Sherry, darling, I have eyes.

Quote:
In describing the site and the amenities, each (outdoor) parking space has an electric plugin for their vehicle. The building is ‘Pet friendly’ (size limitation) and also offers units designed for handicapped persons as well.
Wow!! Such luxury!!!! Electric plug-ins! For your Tesla!!!

Quote:
elevator access to all floor levels
You don't say!

Quote:
Upon completion, the grounds will be nicely landscaped with sod, paved parking and sidewalks that lead down to the street level.
I don't think Thunder Bay has ever seen something quite like this. Sod? The Staal Brothers' parents grow sod! That's how exclusive this is! Hockey royalty.

Quote:
“The foundation is a poured concrete foundation wall with a poured metal deck above. We also have some structural steel to span the openings as required. The foundation excavation was a little
problematic as we in countered bedrock that had to be removed to get our foundation in and site services. The walls and floor system are wood frame with a wood truss roof system and the sloped roof truss has asphalt shingles over top.
<seductive voice>asphalt shingles</seductive voice>

Quote:
Did we mention that there are only six suites left?
25% of them, yes.

Fair assessment.

“Nicely landscaped with sod, paved parking and sidewalks”.

Since when is a parking lot considered landscaping? Also, sod isn’t nice landscaping. It’s the bare minimum. It’s like bragging that your car comes with wheels.

I'm unsure about it. The clash is so big.
