I've been inside that theatre probably a dozen times over the years, including seeing a play (?) there in the 1990s. Some kind of children's troupe or something. The last time I went was with the Utah Heritage Foundation about five years back, and it was trashed beyond salvage in my very uninformed opinion. If it had been maintained over the years, if it hadn't been split into two auditoriums...but it hasn't, and it has. Sadly, I think architectural tributes to the Pantages/Utah Theatre in the open space and new tower are going to be the best solution.

They were issued a building permit just 6 days ago so I think this is a good sign they were prepared to begin construction as soon as the permit came through.

There's an excavation truck and some men running some kind of pump/tubing into the Northwest corner of the property as we speak. Excited to see another project breaking ground soon.
Effect of new skyscrapers on Gateway entrances into SLC
Anyway someone might be able to place the new Utah Theater Tower, and maybe some of the other new towers (Tower 8, etc) into these skyline images? Would be awesome to help get a better idea of how much the new towers would effect some of the gateway entrances into Salt Lake City.

Anyway, I'm hoping they up the height on that a little bit, but then again I'm already skeptical about the prospects of a 39-story apartment tower in Salt Lake City. Still, I'm hoping it happens, especially since it will activate that awful Carl's Jr. corner.

The building will be 447'-9" to the very top of the mechanical/elevator rooftop. That's the very top of the white stone facade at the top of the tower.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the Kensington. Both that and Liberty Sky across the street will do wonders for activating that area of State Street.
Question, the Utah one center is listed at 350’... that’s 72 feet shorter then the wellsfargo tower. Are they not including the tip top of the pyramid in the 350’ height for the Utah One Center? I don’t see a 72’ difference from the top of the pyramid to the top of Wells Fargo. Help me out with this.
If everything goes through for Kensington Tower, 25’ taller won’t stand out as much as we would hope for a new tallest. But 448’ is beyond what I was expecting and will be pretty amazing considering the thinner nature of the proposed tower compared to most of our high rises. It’s going to be the roaring 20s’ decade of development for SLC.
I really like certain elements of it. I like how they break the design up into three sections, which they talk about in the pdf. The first 7-8 floors is sort of at the "human scale", there is a break there, then the next 12ish floors is in the general height of several of the other buildings in the area, then it tops out as a new tallest, though it won't stick out like a sore thumb. Grade is probably a few feet higher than where the Wells Fargo tower is, and as we've talked about before, the 422 feet of the Wells Fargo tower is a little suspect, in that only some of the stuff sticking out of the roof get that high, with the roof being around 400 (if memory serves), so I actually think this tower would look significantly taller. Dave, I think 350 is the top of the pyramid on One Utah Center, it's that Wells Fargo building roof is actually shorter than advertised. The façade materials are fine, nothing special but not horrible either. Overall I like it. Fingers crossed it gets built!
From Carl's Jr. to new tallest. I can be happy about that. Many have expressed for years how that's the perfect site for a new tallest and now we miiiight be getting it.
It's not an exciting design but it's good, not ugly. I like it.
