The signage said the Food Lodge will open Fall 2020. The old food court only had Edo and I think one other place, I didn't pay enough attention.
Not sure where you got that from but I assure you it won’t be a Triple Os. There will be more announcements to come.

Also White Spot and Triple Os can both be franchised.

I asked my boss at white spot and he said it was a Triple O's.

Was kind of hoping for some animated lighting affects or screens on this project.

I swear the renders suggested such.

It might yet be backlit.
Or the lettering themselves might be incandescent for all we know.

Maybe we might wait to see it at night (assuming they are, and they get them working and lit soon).

It'll be a Christmas tree in the winter

Me too. Something similar to the one in front of Solo facing Lougheed. It really is an important spot for some video effect. Much needed light in that corner in the winter. It captures people attention arriving by skytrain.

There are lots of other trees on the plaza - with benches below.
You'd get a wet bum if you were to sit on the fountain ledges.

Can confirm it is back-lit, minus the B and the R (at the moment)

Obviously the intent of the tree is to provide a focal point/interest to the fountain. That's like saying the pin oak atop Eugenia Place in the West End is pointless because it doesn't shade the street below.

i still don't understand why the fountain has been made in such a way that anyone can walk into it, it's not a completely closed off circle.

Kids will like it, parents won't.
I guess it's a variation on those plaza fountains that shoot from a grid.

I would have imagined that that was kind of the point.

It's the sort of visual you're going for when you make that kind of design decision and Shape won't be too displeased to see that.

And bunch of kids frolicking around in the water jet sprays in the middle of a blistering hot summer day and lots of people generally milling around the area adding to the life and "atmosphere" of the area.

Of course, as you note, a lot of THOSE kids parents won't like it but I don't imagine many people will begrudging younglings cooling off in a mid-to-late August plus 30-35 degree oven hot summer afternoon weekend.
(....even though it currently doesn't feel like we'll be getting those anytime this year)
