Yours is looking really good too, I really dig the wavy aesthetic present on both the tower and podiums on both sites, and I like the approach you took for the theatre. I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished products from everyone.

I've seen the norther lights at Queen and Carlaw in Toronto so I would expect to see them in any Canadian city on a cold winter night.

Nice looks very Toronto. I'm kinda stuck in a creative block -distracted by the good weather- that's looking rather blah

The theatre was designed to be the interior of large building on the site which was never finished. The entrance was the only facade element complete. A structure engulfing the theatre is very appropriate and was envisioned originally. Your on the right track.

So was I just got back from a very chilly dog walk. Today is a perfect day to be creative in Toronto.

I'm with whippersnapper on this one lol.

Haha, we could always go the way of shows like "Nailed It", where the friendly judges review an unrecognizable blob of a baking attempt with "i like how you got the spray on color right though!"

I'll throw up some of my old unused designs later for you guys to eviscerate

Whatever floats your boat. Throwing up some of your old designs is not what this thread is about. I would love to see you create something for the site chosen for round 2 instead of just jumping on the ignorant WS bandwagon.

I'm working on building #5 of 8 total. Possibly going to scrap another building and reclad it. My approach: downtown Winnipeg isn't Mississauga City Centre.

Yeah I agree. The surrounding has some pretty heavy heritage if I get what you said correctly.

Well it's not like anyone would notice if I recycled something else for this site lol it wouldn't be any less foreign to the context than anything posted so far

Looking at the context here, it's sad how WPG ruined so much of their historic architecture building parking lots, parking garages, high rise apartment buildings and mediocre modernist office blocks. What were city builders thinking circa 1950s-2000?! (Even recent additions like the Alt hotel, True North Square etc look horrendous.)

I’ll give you Alt Hotel not everyone’s favourite at all but what wrong with True North Square I think it’s a great development and looks good .

I'm a big fan of both. Miles better than anything built in Ottawa. Here's our Alt, complete with a car ramp taking most of the already super narrow sidewalk.

Vs the rendering. The cool frame on the roof was never built.

It's not a terrible building, but the rendering was far better. I'd take Winnipeg's Alt any day. I would kill for a True North Square.

^ The Ottawa alt is still miles ahead of our EIFS-clad mess. They saved the Winnipeg one to some extent by making the podium look half decent, but everything above it is bad. It wouldn't be so irritating if it were shunted off to a side street, but it's so prominent right on the main drag, across from Bell MTS Place. I suppose it's nicer than what was there before, but that isn't really saying much.

As for True North Square, yeah, that one is good.

TNS has a very dull corporate campus look that is inappropriate for its context. I am now turning my attention to building #6 & #7: no longer going to be office buildings as COVID19 has probably put an end to this boom. While I love the old prewar architecture across Canada, I don't want to copy it.

Ya but come on Delung, have some fun with us. I'd love to see what you could come up with site specific. At the very least you will need to set something you already have into the constraints of the site. But you shouldn't need to cheat to do this, it's not a serious competition by any means.
