Yes agreed on "chaotic and interesting" vs my choice of "elegant".

More importantly I can confirm heavy demo has begun on the lot- the whole neighborhood was shaking yesterday and again early today with massive jackhammers working on removing the bank building.

This will be great for such a prime intersection on Sunset and will certainly liven up the street experience in the area. Pretty lame that the locals apparently preferred their rundown strip mall highlighted by a McDonald's.

This is why I favor the metro extension towards LA Cienega. Hospital, mall, gay weho district, somewhat near the main sunset strip. You need to connect already dense places people want to go not down LA brea which isn't someplace of high interest.

I think either a La Cienega or Fairfax spur are both worth it. Fairfax has the museums at Wilshire, plus the Farmers Market/Grove, both of which are high traffic destinations and could alleviate traffic. But either one would be awesome.

This area is getting pretty dense, hopefully cedar plans on building on that huge parking lot across the street on San Vicente

Glad to see that site getting redeveloped. It's such a large, visible location right there on Santa Monica. Production facilities like this generally aren't great for pedestrians, though. Lots of tall, blank walls. Looks like that's basically what's rendered, though it is nice to see the corners activated with retail. Overall, this is very positive for East Hollywood.

That was my thought as well, but I think it makes LA in a very special position 10-20 years from now when a lot of the infill is built, it will be surrounding these amazing studio spaces right in the middle of the city. I don't think atlanta, new york etc could/will have anything like this. And for LA, it makes sense, use wise.

Taix

Was just on the call for the planning committee meeting. Looks like the Taix proposal might get a "tower" like the one across the street if the developer saves the original building. They are working out details. That, I fully support and we should be doing more of these kind of partnerships with cultural monument sites. Save building, fine, but more housing!

Also, 4100 and Bates hotel got approved to not have to do CEQA. Everyone was for those two projects which you rarely hear, so that's good.

When "historic preservation" goes too far. Count me out of the "save every gimmicky building in the city" movement.

idk, I’d much rather have a funky pedestrian oriented structure and a tower than a bland stucco box.

No pics, but I went into Palms for the first time in awhile. There must be 8-10 midrises u/c over there and I think more are planned. It's pretty cool.

So looking at the rest of the year, the most building is probably happening in

Hollywood
Koreatown
Downtown Santa Monica
Warner Center (its alot)
Arts District
South Park
City Center West/Westlake (a crazy amount of midrises it seems)
Culver City
Palms
North Hollywood maybe?

Norman Foster's, $2B "One Beverly Hills" is approved by the Beverly Hills City Council!!!!

https://urbanize.city/la/post/one-be...shire-approval

Could be my favorite proposal in greater LA and incredible to have this approved and them for to be shooting for a 2021 groundbreaking (if plans haven't changed from the EIR)
