This is a stunner. All these properties lining the Schuylkill once they're finished will be such an amazing area of the city. We're so lucky to be living through all this development.

Took a while but this area is shaping up. The rivers in this town have been so mishandled.

We moved from Rochester, NY and they did it too. There was apart of town along the Genesee River that went from downtown to the University of Roch. They decided to put subsidized housing along that stretch in the 70s. Not only did it derail what would have been the premier riverfront area of the city, but it gave the drug and crime scene a central homebase to infiltrate the city until this day.

An all glass canyon
but I love the density and a new river vista

What's happening with the construction to the north of JFK Boulevard?
Is it being reconstructed?

Glass Canyon

They put a pedestrian ramp in on that block linking 22nd Street with JFK, apparently. 'Tis not enough IMO. (It's on the wrong side of the street for people who want to be/are on the south side of the street, for starters.)

Stairs at 22nd St & JFK Blvd 2

Yeah. This is pretty bad.
Functional I guess, but a real lost opportunity.
Not exactly visionary.
I've given a lot of thought about this space between JFK Blvd and the rails but I won't get into what this space could've been

^i just went down these stairs today and they're really not that bad for an addition to a blah bridge. the trees, streetlamps and landscaping make it wayyyyy more inviting than it would be otherwise. and for what it's worth, there is an ADA-accessible pedestrian crosswalk (painted lines, very visible signage over the street, etc) across JFK at the top of these stairs, so access to both sides of JFK was at least considered.

Hoping this is just a temporary solution honestly. There should be a tower built here in the future, and the stairs can be reconfigured then.

The 2000 block, 2100 block and 2200 block all needs towers capping the rail tracks in the future.

I'm thrilled to see JFK Boulevard get some love.

It could be a game changer if they took advantage of the space between the Blvd and the wall supporting the rails. A little landscaping would be nice.
That fence to the right, was that necessary?
I'm sure there's a million codes, rules and excuses as to why that wall needs protected, but really?
Stairs at 22nd St & JFK Blvd 2

Couldn't that expensive ramp been extended to include access to 23rd Street?
Even with stairs. I know $$$
JFK Blvd Ramp at 22nd Street

I like to see every inch of Center City to be utilized to it's fullest potential.
Consolidating all the space and converted into a lush linear park, from 20th Street to the river.
A series of ramps connecting the Blvd to the streets below.
Lined with landscaping, gathering areas, seating, pedestrian/tourist amenities.
After all it's a main link from Center City to 30th Street Station. Not just for vehicular traffic but bicycles and pedestrians.
A new GREEN SPACE in the heart of the city.

"Metal Slab Edge" would be such a great band name. "Mullion Cap" could open for them when venues come back online...

Yeahhhh that is incredibly unfortunate. Hopefully Philly doesn't fumble this. We've had our fair share of blunders but it really seems like they're finally doing right by our rivers.

_______

Regarding the stairs, they're fine. No one will care about a staircase when there's a tower there and another one filling in the Trader Joe's parking lot. It seems out of place there now because it is, but it won't be forever. Plus they're easy to move if they wind up sucking too badly lol.
