The death of the last 1960's style box

China Resources Building, though built in the early 80's, resembles a 1960's box in many aspects. It is definitely not an architectural gem in common senses, but it somewhat plays a "supporting role" to make the Hong Kong skyline not too glassy (or too tacky).

Unfortunately, this is what it will become after the renovation. It looks nice actually, but this also brings a style (or this size) to an end in HK.

Recladding a 60's box into another form of an equally 60's box.

Doesn’t look too drastic to be honest; but as long as the shape remains then so will the evidence of the era.

The Hopewell Centre is the quintessentially 60s-70s modern tower in HK anyway, no big loss here. At least it's not being torn down.

I think this is one of the first reclads that I am entirely indifferent to. I really can not decide on which one is better or worse.

Sorry Hong Kong but's that's a pretty awful '60s box' if you think that that counts as a fair example of mid century Modernism. Looks like the reclad will really open it up and get some light and air inside.

Wow, that building looks remarkably similar to an ugly building in Salt Lake City.
