I can see where his popularity comes from, it's a wonder to me that I haven't heard of him before this.

Not much traffic for the Bass Pro/Cabela's grand opening.

Roundabouts strike again.

Overcapacity is overcapacity. A lighted intersection would be similarly backed up with such traffic volumes.

On another note (actually related to the retail topic of this thread), I'm glad to see that there is some excitement over the new store. Dartmouth Crossing is getting better all the time!

That would have been a perfect spot for a two-lane roundabout IMO. Hell, that circle is too big to function as a one-laner. The whole point of modern roundabouts is that the entrances and exits are at the same point and to have a small circle that allows the whole thing to function as a unit, not a big one that prioritizes high speeds. Whose idea was this?

I think abnormal amounts of traffic would cause difficulty roundabout or not. Also think it would be foolish to engineer the access for the number of vehicles at opening rather than typical flow. Imagine the expanses of pavement.

I don't think this shows that the traffic circle doesn't work; it shows that hundreds of cars were trying to use it at exactly the same time. The place was totally packed for its opening night, and unlike normal shoppers, everyone arrived at the same time. There were also local non-profits and conservation groups that set up booths there, so it was more than just a store opening. It was a big event. The exist off the 118 were also backed up. I would be very surprised to see this repeated with any regularity.

Yeah, that many cars at an intersection would be a nightmare. This isn't about a traffic circle being the right or wrong choice.

That parking lot looks like a mess. I'm sure that was fun.

I'm pretty sure that's not the parking lot but instead a graveled future building site. Presumably overflow from a full paved lot in front of the store.

I wonder if the white Jeep at the edge of the lot near the roundabout just drove down the embankment to leave.

Yeah! Everyone is commenting about the roundabout, and I'm like, holy, that's not even the parking lot.. just a future site! What a crowd!

FAO Schwarz toy store is opening pop-up stores in all the Hudson’s Bay stores across Canada including the only two stores in Atlantic Canada.
  • Hudson's Bay Dartmouth Mic Mac Mall
  • Hudson's Bay Sydney Mayflower Mall

These stores may become permanent. They are also re-opening the FAO Schwarz flagship store at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York on Nov. 16.

Interesting... I wonder which space they will be putting it in at 30 Rock? There is already the Lego store there, which attracts big crowds as well. We go there early December every year, and I will have to check it out. 5th and 58th still feels so empty though without FAO there!

Looks like it will be where the NBC Experience store was in the prime location overlooking the plaza/rink.

Ah ok. Nice! I'm glad to see the name survive, even in downscaled form. It was such an NYC institution!

I hope they have more planned then that. Sydney will be lucky enough to get a table and a sign with it's small Bay store.

Though Sydney has been rebranded to Hudson Bay, whereas Mic Mac signage still is The Bay

Haven't been to a Halifax-area Bay for many years but there are still a few suburban locations around Vancouver. They're pretty sad inside. I wonder how they are still in business.

I still wonder if and when Simons will open in Halifax. It would do great there. Another couple of stores that could work there are Uniqlo and Muji.

I agree 100% with this.

Simon, Uniqlo and Muji are the only things that Halifax is really missing now in terms of retail.

When I lived in Seoul I would shop there as I felt the fit was better for me and the prices were great.

There are a few other stores from Asia I would like to see over here but these are the big ones.
